Vintage 50's - 60's Sinclair Gas Station

...wonder if I could fit one in front of my shop property...
 
Thanks Pops! Anyone notice the price of gas on that pump? $0.289 per gallon. Those were the days. We are basically at 10 times that price these days.

Paul Peterson's Shell service station in Georgetown Ca.
1974 min wage $1.65 an hr, wahoo big bucks :poke: & glad to have it too
rode my motorcycle, (before I had a license, just a lerner's permit)
to work every day after school
after I got my license, I drove my 68 Charger R/T

Paul would let me get 'take off tires',
60's were the big craze back then
I went thru rear tires like my underwear :lol:

The days of the full service, with a smile
should I fill her up sir/mam ?
can I check your oil ?
can I check your tires ?
always a nice cleaned windshield, while pumping gas/fuel
when the gallons went faster, than the dollars (well sort of)

I did small tune up stuff, tire changes & rotations
Lube oil filter changes...
Lots of big rigs, mainly logging truck would fill up
on the pumps out back, diesel #2

Paul would say "fill my tank" as a thanks/tip, every once in a while
give me a few extra bucks for doing a job, he didn't finish
or didn't want to do etc.

Great days, I remember well,
just not much pay...
 
I worked at one of the last full serve gas stations in Dayton OH in 1987.

Union 76 corner of Smithville and Huffman (of Huffy bicycle and Huffman prairie Wright brothers test area).

There were a couple Shell stations that still had a full service island along with 1 or 2 self serv islands but ours was full service only.

There was a lady that would come in twice a week and get $2 (about 2 gallons) and always want every fluid and tires checked. I hated that lady. Most people just wanted gas and windshield and maybe asked to check one fluid.

We also had what we called a "tow truck" with was an international scout with a big wooden push bumper. If a regular customer had car trouble in the neighborhood, someone would take that and push them to the station.
 
We have a station here that looks just like that. It was a Sinclair until the last round of EPA regs that put them out of the gasoline bidness. They still do repairs.
Old time family shop.
Drove past it a little while ago. Still busy.
 
We had one in our town till just a few years ago.
 
Who remember jumping on the rubber hose gas station bell for service..

Oh man, I did that all the time at my cousin's Standard Station when I was little.

Then years later when I was 18 I worked a couple summers for them at the station, .......and I still had to jump on that to ring the bell once in awhile. Good memories!
 
I have a friend who is reviving an old Gulf station in the small town of Richland Georgia who happens to be a real Mopar collector as well. I will find some pics.
