Diesel Tuning

It’s actually pretty comparable to my 99’ CTD. Nothing to write home about for damn sure! With the smog constraints off, it’s a BEAST!

I bet it is, I drove my neighbors Sierra 2500 with the 6.6? Duramax a couple days ago, that thing is an animal!

A buddy has a Duraslack....05 I think but he drives it pretty slow and when he does put his foot into it, it rolls smoke like crazy. My 97 Dodge will too if I don't blow it out from time to time but the level of smoke it produces is WAY less than his!

I don’t like “rolling coal”, it’s a waste of fuel and a bad tune for a street truck. Plus it invites “unwanted” attention by the police.

Thing is, it's stock! He bought it new and didn't do anything to it but drive it slow. He's one of those that does 30 in a 40 in town (or slower) but does drive the speed limit on the highway at least. He also runs his tires on the low side so it'll ride smoother lol. It's not garaged kept and has 250k miles on it. His son lives 150 miles away and he makes that run quite often. He's 72 but acts 82....

I have no clue, the dealer didn’t have a hand held for it but did say they used a PC to tune it. My guess is EFI Live or equivalent.

Another Update......got the truck weighed at a certified scale, 7520lbs with about 5 gallons of fuel. So then I asked my CHP buddy to do a VIN verification (he’s trained for that and it’s good to have friends in low places) so I text him my info and he brought over the paper, looked the truck over and signed off on it. This morning went to the DMV and it cost me $0.00 to register the truck cause I’m a Disabled Veteran and California takes care of that for us. But they wanted the registration from Arizona, couldn’t find it in my paper work, so it’s all done, just need to provide that paper and then I’ll get my tags. I did find after I left, so I’ll go back tomorrow and finish up.

Then I can make the truck breathe better!!!

The never ending updates......the DMV is now saying they need the title. The gal that was helping me on Friday apparently knows her **** (about time somebody that knows exactly what I need). She printed out a paper to give to my Credit Union so they know why the title is being needed. So I get home, call my CU, they say no problem and will be sending it to my local DMV office, they will have it by Wednesday. Then the DMV will call me, bring back all my paperwork then get this fiasco taken care of.

I thought a tool box in the bed of my truck would be cool to have, hold my trailer hitch, tie downs, a few gallons of water, belt, water pump, tools, and anything else I can think of. Found one on CL, guy was asking $50, got it for $20 and now I’ve got some tig welding to do on it. Gonna be a fun project.

Man, so glad it's much easier in Texas!! Btw, my 97 3/4 ton 2wd is 6050 with about 1/2 a tank of diesel....which I thought was a bit on the heavy side.

The whole title thing comes down to 2 things, I financed a small portion and it’s also an out of state vehicle.

So if I had bought in CA., none of this crap would be necessary and if I had paid in full, I would’ve had the title and then CA. would issue me a new one.

Tomorrow back to the DMV, hopefully they got the title from the Credit Union and I can finish the registration crap.

On a lighter note, I found a below the rail tool box on Craigslist for $20. I welded up a few holes, new gas struts then used Duplicolor truck bed liner in a spray bomb to coat it. Turned out pretty decent and I have less than $100 into it.

Last update.......truck is now legally registered in California! Hot damn! Waited in the DMV for 1 hour and 45 minutes, took the gal 5 minutes to verify the VIN as she said the CHP did it wrong then 10 minutes or so to get the registration done. Now I can park in the handicapped spaces again as I have Disabled Veteran plates, lol!
