I cannot find any raised pads or stamped numbers on the lower part of the block. My 69 RR is supposed to be numbers matching. The only stamped numbers I find are the ones on the pad near distributor. See attached. Surely there is a vin somewhere on the block?

Your picture is to blurry to read all the info... I see 383 & I see HP down in the corner.... What I don’t clearly see is a letter in front of the 383...

After blowing it up it appears to be a V.... That’s probably not a 69 block...
V is 1964..

There should be a pad on the passenger side down along the oil pan rail, just rear of the motor mount....

Actually after seeing the V I suggest looking for a casting date on the side of the block

That looks like a V to me also. Next line is 3 2 4. If it's a 64 block there wouldn't be a pad with a VIN#. Casting date should be on the side of the block up high toward the back on the passenger's side.

If it's a 69 383, the numbers ( year and vin) will be where 1wild r/T said. Mine shows year (9) plant (A) and six digit vin. Trans also should have a vin on it.

V383 would be a 1964 block. The Vin is on the pad above oil pan on passenger side right behind the engine mount. If there is nothing stamped into that pad maybe its a replacement block? But the code stamped in at the distributor says its a 64..

Have you guys forgotten the possibility since it is a 68 block his VIN stamp may be here:

Thanks for replies. I'll do some more checking & report back. Will look at casting date. Here's a pic of fender tag.

Block casting date 11-7-63. Pic attached. Numbers stamped on pad by distributor:
V 38 maltese cross
12. 4
HP
I was hoping to be able to verify this car is numbers matching. No numbers where engine belts to bellhousing.

The casting date on the block rules out that it is not matching......

Maltese cross could undersized crank journals if engine has never been apart. if crank is undersize crank counter will be stamped.

I'm afraid you have a 64 engine and there is no way on it being matching. I don't know much about earlier casting, but could possibly be a stronger block.

With that engine being in a 68 or 69 it is not the numbers matching engine. As I stated early on it is a 64 and as many have stated afterwards.. The best you could hope for is a block comes up for sale with a closer casting date to your car. Otherwise you just have an old car with an older engine.. No big deal but you arent winning any concourse prizes... Just drive the piss out of it and enjoy what you have.. In the mean time search for a more accurately date coded engine...The picture below is what your engine block should look like.
