Same here. Leaving Chicago, it passed through Elburn Ill., about 30 miles south of me, but circumstances prevented me from being able to see it. I'll bet it was assume.

I'm ashamed to admit it but.... that BigBoy was just a few miles from me, at the L.A. county fairgrounds, and i paid no attention.

I stopped to see it but the museum was closed that day. Now that it's on the road I hope it comes to my neighborhood.

Just your average old Locomotive...a Montreal Locomotive Works M-420, built in the 1970s. Now retired.

But it ended up being the locomotive on the 100 year anniversary coin issued by the Canada Mint.

Then called a Canadian cab IIRC.

CN started calling them 'Comfort Cabs'. But yes, that wide cab design was quickly adopted by just about everyone. Also coming out in the same year (1973) and built for CN was the similar concept from GM's Electromotive Division, the GP38-2W (below). Both the EMD and the LMW designs were 2,000 hp. and had four axles. Besides the wider cab, the Canadian versions of the GP38 also had additional snow shields for the air intakes.
