Ok here is my Problem I own a 64 S/S Drag car and I am rebuilding the car into a street gasser. I am dismantling the rear end assembly and have it all apart except for the removal of the spool. And I for the life of me cannot get it out everybody I talk to says it should just pop out but no chance. I even bought a case spreader and at this moment it is installed and I have it as tight as I can spread it with no luck. Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.

Post a pic of the case. Does it have side adjusters like strange does? Some u have to pry out with a crow bar. They are in that tight. Then there is all the fun of getting it back together. Does it really have to come apart? Kim

Get 2 long crow bars, you and a buddy on each opposite side, and get under the spool then pry it up. This method will work provided your D60 has the side adjusters backed off (if equipped) and the axles are out, (just asking about the axles).

Old school trick:
Put a rag in the gear teeth and turn the pinion with a long bar. The rag will jam in the teeth and push the carrier out without damage.
