I installed a Leeds rotary brake vacuum pump today. It runs as soon as the ignition is switched on, builds up vacuum fast and shuts off, then turns on when brake pedal is used.
You cant hear the pump with engine running.
Took the car out and the difference in brake pedal pressure was noticeable the first time I stepped on the pedal.
Im still not 100% happy but the car stops much better. I have to adjust the backs and want to bleed the system. again

Would you please post a pic of that under your hood please with the vacuum hose routing and stuff

Joe, I mounted it under the battery tray as my engine compartment is crowed and I didn't want to see it. The tech at Leeds told me some folks mount it in the trunk and run steel tubing to the engine compartment.
It comes with rubber vacuum hose and hardware

Usually, original power brakes were very much over active just like the original power steering. What's going on with your brakes to have to go with aftermarket stuff?

The vacuum just is not high enough, the engine was just rebuilt by a competent person. The vacuum is around 14 and with a vac gauge the needle vibrates. When I raise up the RPM the needle is rock steady around 18.
I have no idea what's up besides a valve or bad guides. I have to look up the specs for the cam but its suppose to be mild.
It runs good, no smoke, blow by or engine noise. Im tired of dealing with this and so I just said screw it and went for the pump
BTW this was a drum power brake car that I put a front disc brake conversion

14" of vacuum should be enough to run the booster. Did you upgrade to front discs and keep the single diaphragm booster for drum brakes?
I tried that with my 68 Charger and the single diaphragm is not enough for the disc brakes. Even 20" of vacuum will not provide enough boost. That is why Chrysler used the dual diaphragm booster with disc brakes. Sounds to me that may be your problem.

I had this conversation with Cass at Dr Differential. I went. with a dual diaphragm booster which helped, however the bigger improvement was going to a smaller 15/16 bore master. Dont get me wrong the car stops, I just think it should require less pedal pressure. I think you need more vacuum then 14 inches and this new pump makes a difference. The pedal as you step on it still feels the same but as you increase your foot pressure then the brakes really feel as they should and the car stops better. Im sure im getting more pressure at the calipers.
My own personal opinion especially with the company I dealt with for the conversion is the parts are not matched correctly

We are an authorized LEED Brakes dealer. We have sold many of these Vacuum pumps with positive results. In my opinion they are the best on the market currently ( for ease of install, sound and re-ability) . I just finished an install for an older friend with a C10 with a hopped up 235 with low vacuum and it did the trick. Plus as a member of the forum you all eligible for the members discount as well.

Thanks
