What's better buy new bumpers or have the old ones re-chromed? How much does it cost to have them re-chromed?

Thanks everyone!

I paid 750.00 locally to have the OE bumpers rechromed. Front and rear. Better metal in the old stuff.

Hmmm Might be cheaper to re-chrome by the time you pay for bumpers and shipping.

Depends on the level of quality you're after..re-chroming the originals won't be cheaper; especially if they aren't perfectly straight. New rear bumper (AMD) for my '68 from Jeg's was under $300 delivered, had it on my porch in four days. It's not the ultra-premium you would get from a GOOD chrome shop but they're fine for a driver like mine..

Chrysler made how many thousands of b-body bumpers ?!?!? Do you think they were all "show quality" ? The repops are as good as any the factory ever cranked out - which is to say ... they're not perfect.

reproduction bumpers are far from as good as a oem bumper

What are you even talking about? No one is saying an OEM is show quality...we were talking about an off-the-shelf repro vs. re-chroming originals...

YOU came in here being a smartass with your original post and you got it right back! You can't take it then too bad!!
:D:D

I rechromed my OEM bumpers and they look great. I paid about $700 and that included both bumpers and the exhaust tips. Had them done in LA.

You're pretty thin-skinned if you thought my post was "smartass".

Bought re-chromed front & rear. $695.00 ea. + $45.00 ea. shipping. Looks awesome.

Thanks Guys, I appreciate the feedback!

I just dropped mine off at the chrome shop to the tune of 980 for the pair...barf. $480 a piece before tax, but that's inflated due to living in the bay area where they are trying to shut everything down! I have bought a set of bumpers from AMD for an old dart and I was impressed with them. They cost $750 shipped to the door, but the OEM stuff fits much better and is a heavier gauge metal etc....

I had mine re-chromed by Tri-City back in March. $475 a piece plus $120 shipping. I did not want re-pops on my A12. That might sound terribly high to some - but I have another car with a pair of bumpers that were re-chromed by Tri-City back in 2002. They still look like they were just done yesterday. You get what you pay for.

One thing I know for certain - do not use any of that crap sold by Bumper Boyz. I bought a pair for another project several years ago. They rusted before I could even get them on the car. Had to sand down the backsides and paint them black. The prep and plating quality was just awful.

Really?
Who's thin skinned? You sure got your panties ruffled because I questioned your first comment that had ZERO to do with what we were talking about? All one needs to do is read the original exchanges...

Totally agree...the 'bumper boyz' pieces are very poor quality, even for use as cores. My neighbor bought one for a ford hot-rod and same thing, after it sat about a year it was rusting...reviews all over the 'net are similar.

That's not terrible for a good chrome job, especially in CA...what was the name of the shop if you don't mind?

I have AMD on the 68 and they are fine for a Daily Driver, $600 shipped from Summit about 4 years ago. Still look good. On the other side of the coin We did a resto on a 72 Buick Skylark, the bumpers are BIG. Got a quote from Ogden chrome in Utah at $1200 each, YIKES. Plus shipping and a 6 month wait. Guess Kindig has them pretty busy. Went with fiber glass instead.
