Does anyone have a picture of their 73 or 74 Charger front and rear bumpers on the car without the rubber extended bumper guards? I am considering leaving them off my 74 SE when it goes back together.

Thanks, Larry

I think that without them, the gaps between the bumper and body would look bad. You could tuck the bumpers in closer but they are wider than the body and stick out. I've read of some guys cutting and sectioning the bumpers to make them narrower.....so they fit the car better.

If you mean the pieces between the body and the bumpers there is too much of a gap to not have something there. You can hug them closer to the body with a little work but to be honest the extra couple inches make those cars look so much better overall, IMO. If you are talking about the big honkin' bumperettes, go ahead and toss them.

You can tuck them in by using brackets from the 71's or 72's with a little modification. The bumper fillers are very hard to come by now and no one is really re-popping them. The bumperettes(or bumper guards) can be tossed if that's what you are looking at. I kept mine on the 73 just because its a stock look for those cars. The wife made the bumper fillers while I was at work. She found a 16 foot roll of black garage-door rubber seal at Mennards. The width was perfect. Get a lot of compliments on the look.

They are repopping the fillers now but they are not cheap. You may run into some fitment issues with the grille/tail lights if you tuck the bumpers, I'd recommend doing a search and finding more info if that is the direction you are heading in.

Hanks, can you post some photos of the Menard's fix? Thanks

I've done a few of these and used the 72 brackets the tail light wireing is dang close but it clears .
The 72 brackets are the best upgrade ever to a 73-74
Front bumpers you just need to adjust a smidge higher,if at all I never touch the fronts they look fine with that 1/4 " gap

The 71/72 front brackets won't work on the ISO frame 73/74.

You can "simply" slot the 73/74 brackets to push the bumper back.

I thought he (the op) was talking about the rubber baby buggy bumpers that mopar tacked on to pass regs.

Here ya go....the close-ups don't do it any justice but its raining out so I can't get the car out for better pics. The black definitely hides any gap issues.

I STILL think he is talking about the rubber bumper extenders tacked onto the outside of the bumpers. Hanks pics #3 and #7.

Yes, I was talking about the rubber bumpers that stick out from the bumpers on 73 and 74 Chargers. The earlier Chargers look more "neat" without the big rubber extensions. I think my "gap fillers" are OK, and will just need painted. I saw in the original post I sent where the guy painted them body color, vice the normal grey or silver color. Looked good. I may think about that (Dark Green).
