New to me 1968 Charger build thread!!!

Awesome car! Love the 68's! You sure that us an open rear end with both tires leaving a patch? I'd be willing to bet someone added a sure grip if it wasn't coded for one from factory. Any engine bay shots or interior shots?

Something is engaging the LR tire about 75%. That might be worth a check later. If it's smooth and no slack there is nothing immediately needed.
I hate I sold my 68 about 5 years ago, but it's water under the bridge now.
I jacked up the rear just before doing it.. the tires spun opposite of each other.. unless it's a worn out SG I'm not sure..

A 68 383 4-speed is pretty rare in a Charger. I don't remember the numbers, but they were never a everyday thing.

Let me know what you think!?

Since you asked; for a purchase price of 65 large, a 383 2 barrel car should be a perfect low mileage, matching numbers, original sheetmetal, highly detailed car that you should have to do nothing to but add gas. In the few pictures shown, I do see a few things that worry me about the quality of the restoration. Personally, I think you paid 20 grand too much for it. I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but I do know a thing or two about these car.

Jeez, such an angry response from someone who was asking "what do you think?!". I didn't say anything negative about the you or the car, so you'll have to excuse me for giving an honest opinion.

LOL and I attacked you? Dude quit while you're ahead. I'm not mad at all, just hate purists trying to tell how a car SHOULD be.. I wouldn't own it if it was a OE restoration. Simply cause it's not what my Dad and I want. Bet you think my 71 Demon should still be a numbers matching slant 6 car, even though it has a 500hp 383 in it.

Slow down junior, I didn't say that you attacked me, rather I said that you had an angry response, which it was. Also, I never said that you didn't know anything or had to go the purist route. While we're at it, did I tell you how a car SHOULD be? No, what I was simply pointing out is that the closer to original a car is restored to, the more it is worth. It's really that simple and I'm sorry that you don't like my opinion on the value, but I was stating fact. To he honest, it really matters not to me whether you want to mod this car (or your Demon) to suite you and your dad's tastes.....although I don't know what his tastes has to do with your car?

But let's back up a bit; you come on here telling everyone how you and your family members got a pretty good inheritance(s) and long story short, everyone is debt free thanks to grandpa assuming room temperature. While other members of your family are talking about (hopefully) investing wisely, you hastily spent your slice of the pie by overpaying on a toy that you claim is an "investment".

Whether you spent 65 large sight unseen or not would be a whole 'nother story, but I digress. It's one thing to overpay on a car that you fell in love with by a few thousand, but you're now 20 large (and counting) in the hole with your "investment" and you advise me that I should quit while I'm ahead? That's really rich.

The OP shouldn't ask for an opinion unless he's willing to consider one when it's given. RC IS one of, if not the most likely to give the OP a straight answer with a dose of truth. He's NOT wrong. You did overpay and now your stuck with a car you will likely not be able to recoup your money from.

LOL you guys are hilarious no wonder forums are dead.. I know I over paid.. there is no need or reason to bring it up.. you don't get it and that's cool.. I wanted opinions on the car not my life choices.

Best watch Charger values before commenting on losing money.. they are going up everyday.. I'd bet money (yup still got some left over after $5k in parts/upgrades for this car) I do not lose money on it should I WANT to sell it.

You 2 are the only 2 to say I've over paid.. and I've posted it all over Facebook. But hey I'm just a pissed off retard that wasted his money..

So sorry you feel this way.
Fortunately, this Forum is "Top Dog"
It is not a "Dead Forum"
Many members are "in the know"
RC for instance, has owned and owns some of the "BEST" 1968 and 1969 Chargers in the World..(if it is #1 in the U.S. it's #1 "out there" Period
Mopar experts abound here on this Forum.
Unfortunately you pulled your first Post.
So I can not comment on your car and the price you paid.
Quite frankly, I think you sadly have "missed the point"
1. First off, no one is ganging up on you. (I know you did not say that, but just to clear the air)
2. RC is a being "to the point" and IF anyone knows 68-69 Chargers, it is he. HE himself has made a bad purchase or two before...WE all have.
3. Do Not think that you are the first to "pay too much for a car"
4. If you are happy, all the more better.
I say: "Cool" and..."I'm happy you have your car"
Now, please share more with the Forum?
We'd all love to see more.

Some times we all need thicker skin. The guys on here don't mean anything by it and sometimes things are taken wrong. But join in because this forum is the best. And you wont find more informed people on the planet than here.

Absolutely. I didn't intend to piss you off. You asked for opinions and got 'em. Nice car regardless and yes, we would like to see more of it. I was addressing the investment angle. It will need to be top drawer to earn a great return at sale time.

Yes, my sentiments exactly,
I would like to say: Congratulations on your Charger!
Wish I could see a pic!

When asking for an honest opinion from members...Well, most are going to give it and not sugar coat it......All those points RC mentioned are the grim reality based on what the OP purchased....

The main thing for the OP. All that matters is that you're happy with it.....

............You 2 are the only 2 to say I've over paid.. and I've posted it all over Facebook............

It pays to remember that Facebook Likes are not real.....unlike the considered and meaningful opinions you will get on a site like this one. Fakebook is not even close to the real world.

Throwing the toys out of the play pen won't get you very far here. But asking for help & sharing pictures will gain you more in shared knowledge and experience from the membership here than any 'social media' site like Fakebook can possibly ever hope to.

Yup. If you were hoping for a bunch of "Attaboys" from us you were wrong. We will however give you our honesty, our help, and our combined MASSIVE amount of experience with cars just like yours.

This forum is very, very good, but a perfect example of a dying forum is dodgecharger.com, or as I refer to it now, junkyardchargers.com.

The O/P bought himself a decent quality driver quality car & there's nothing wrong with that. I voiced my honest concern/opinion on the sale price & that obviously didn't sit well.
