What is the most that you usually keep?
When I got my first 8 3/4" axle, I was anxious to gather up some gearsets to have around. The idea of having a 2.76 for long trips and a 4.10 for drag racing seemed great.
I never warmed up to drag racing though. I'm not fast enough and my car is too heavy. I do like road trips but the super tall 2.76 ratio makes for sluggish starts.
I currently have 6 3rd members.
2.76 open
3.23 open
3.23 SG
3.55 SG
3.91 open
3.91 SG.
I have sold off some over the years but I seem to stumble on others to replace them.
I have 8 3/4" axles in 2 of my cars and 2 of the project cars are slated to get them as well.
These must be durable because most are equipped with original gears and I have never broken any 3rd member so far.

I bought a 73 Dart Sport 340 in 2014. It was part of a 2 car deal with a truckload of parts. The car had no engine or trans but someone had slipped in a 66-67 B body 8 3/4 axle. I found that it had a 2.94 CONE SG. I probably should have kept it but I sold it at a swap meet. It is the only 2.94 3rd member that I had ever owned.
I got a load of parts from a guy in 2013 that included TWO 2.76 SG differentials! Really? A Sure Grip 2.76 ???

I have 10 I can think of: 3 in cars, 7 out. 3 are fresh. Enough components to assemble 1 or 2 more.

I think I have about 3 or 4 complete units counting the ones in my cars. 3.55 in the Runner and 3.91 in the Charger. Then I have a 3.23 Sure grip chunk in a bucket and a 2.76 open setup as well. I also have about 4 or 5 in various parts stages laying around incase I want to build one. I recently picked up a Dana 60 for the Charger from a buddy mostly complete so that may in the near future if I feel up to it. SO to answer your question I believe 4 completes and 4 or 5 pieced out units.

If you've never broken one, well your just not trying hard enough.....but I have a small pile of cases and 2 compleat. A 3.23 SG in the car and a 2.94 under the work bench along with 2 or 3 gear sets and misc other parts. they just seem to find me like im their savior

8. Kern, I have a 64 early B housing with a factory 2.76 sure grip.

I have 355SG in the Satellite. As much as we drive it I am thinking about getting a 323. I think with 323 and 17" tires highway trips will be a little better at 70 MPH

Only 6... I'm trying to not be a hoarder... Was a time when I'd have at least 10 but like you pointed out, I haven't broken one, I kinda figured out what gear ratios I actually use & I thinned the collection.. Now that I'm working toward an O/D trans I might want a different gear...

Have 6 that I can find :D. At one time had everything from a 2.76 to a 4.88 and still have one 4.88 with another in a buddies car. Probably won't see that one again though. Used to scour the local pick and pulls and buy them for 39.00 bucks and found a couple 2.94 SureGrips in floaters. Northern cars? There were a few that valued what a SG did. My dad had a 440 powered 69 New Yorker but it didn't have the SG and it did the one wheel peel for what seemed like forever lol. He wasn't a hot rodder but did like the power and did put it to use at times.

Yeah the PnP scores back in the 80's & early 90's were awesome... These days it's rarely worth going

I have 3 total. 3 in cars and 3 on the shelves. DANA in my race car. Guess we are all hoaders. As my co-worker always says we Mopar guys have to have a car for everything. One for daily driver, one for winter beater, one for cruising, one under restoration, one for racing and at least one parts car. I am guilty on all accounts.

theres around 5 chunks here and some in housings still.
most are one wheeled wonders.
i bought one awhile back just took it apart to put in the coronet and hah.
was supposed to be a 355 sg,turned out to be a 276 sg.
another of the cars has a 294 sg in that one...very odd, almost useless ratios.

Nearly all of mine were daily drivers with one being nice which was used for a highway car. It had a 383 with 2.76's in it.

Useless depends on what you're doing with the car. Had a 70 383 Challenger with a 2.76 in it that was used as a highway car. cruising 80 was no sweat and still got decent mileage. It got 12 in town with the 3.23's and it went to 16 in town with the 2.76's. Never really checked it out on the highway but it would go further on a tank...

I have two. One in the car and a spare sure grip. Both 3.23s

That 2.94 is enough change from a 2.76 to notice, and enough to walk a common gm 3.08 gear at 70 MPH with comparably built engines.
