I've got two coats of epoxy on my 66 Charger, The manufacturer of the paint says, The epoxy needs to be abraded before the topcoat is applied. I'm putting on two coats of high build 2K urethane primer. before my topcoat. My question is what grit paper should I use before spraying my primer?

I would cut epoxy for 2k primer surfaced with 120.

We bring the vehicle to at least 320 for final prep before top coat weather it urethane or base for base clear. The car goes to the paint side at 180.

Most 2K high build primers will fill 80 grit or above scratch marks in 1 coat. So if you are going to put 2 coats on then 120-180 would work great.

We have people answering two different questions, Final sand before color which isn't what was asked...

And the question that was asked which is

" My question is what grit paper should I use before spraying my primer?"

So the 120-180 range is the correct answer...

Sorry, I agree.

Sorry! The Topcoat screwed me up. Topcoat can go over epoxy primer if the car is all the same color,
but my brain didn't process the info correctly. I sit corrected!

huh, I need to read slowly. I got the {before top coat}
and yes if there is 2 coats of high build primer going over the sanding. 180 to 220 will be fine.
sorry bout the mix up.

I thought you could /should spray color on epoxy primer within three days without sanding. After that window, a light scuffing is required.

^^^ I don't understand when you quote someone and your response is included in the blue quote box with their quote?. Anyone know how to correct that?.
