So, my upholstery friend who did my seats said he wouldn't cover my dash pad because he could never get the vinyle into the grooves or around the various edges.

Sprayfoaming in the house, this foam sticks to everything not metal, pad made of foam, I have extra vinyle, I have an extra pad to experiment on - challenge accepted.

Used the last of the big gap filler can, and it worked a little too much. Pad had damage and a few holes. The vinyle was more like plastic.

Razor blade to trim the foam.

Sanded.

I had 2 cans of spray adhesive, one stated to keep away from vinyle, so I used the other.
Taping off sections, spraying, stretching vinyle. Used superglue to adhere the vinyle to the back edge.
A few creases, but not bad.

Emblem finishes it off. Not bad for zero $.

Looks great Matthon

Would you have a pic of the back. I'd like to see the studs. I'm thinking about removing mine and give it a color match. The rose colored interior used a light brownish color and not rose like everything else. I have the vinyl paint in rose but haven't looked up under the dash yet to see how tight the studs are to get to.

There are 7 studs on clips, and they slide in where the notches are in the foam.

Iirc, looking at the dash, the top right one required a wrench, with all the other nuts off.

My dash is out, so if needed I can snap a pic of the holes.

Nope, what you're showing me is perfect! Thanks:thumbsup:

That spare pad came out of a Polara.
I noticed it has a horizontal line that my Dart doesn't.

I don't think it's specific to a Polara as it has 'Dart' embossed under the emblem, just possibly two different vendors for the dash pad.

I noticed that horizontal line in yours. I don't remember seeing that before but I'll be looking from now on. If my "Polara 500" will come off without breaking off the pins I'll check for "Dart" under it.

Here's mine. Every Rose interior has the off color pad. I'm going to be different and have it match.

I bet the vinyle that's wrapped around the back of your pad is the original non-off color.
Every pad I've seen is a different color front to back, as well as under the emblem.

I've got the Polara emblem, but yours looks perfect, even if you broke the studs just glue it.
I've seen them held on with nuts, nuts with washers, and those funny rectangular clips.

Check my first 2 pics, and this one.

I'm waiting to see that. Every one I've seen is off. It could have been the dye/color fading but nothing else in the interior has faded like this. I might hit one or two car shows yet this year then I'll be working on it.

Hard to tell. The Plymouth was probably different than the Dodge but more than likely they are interchangeable along with lots of other parts.

It's hard to imagine all of the different designs, tooling, dies ect. that were used just for one year only. You have to remember that 1962 was a drastic transformation to what once was. One heck of a gamble and I'm sure the designers were falling all over themselves trying to pull it off.

Having five or six '62 Dodges right next to each other at Chryslers@Carslile the last couple of years has been rather educational. Comparing different features and suttle differences makes you wonder if the plants had to use part vendors in their immediate areas to get the job done.

This was one that a fellow '62 owner pointed out. The trunk key slot is off center on some and not others.

Also found a type of "herringbone" patteren trunk mat that was original to the car. (Joe Shucy has been working with ACC to have this pattern made)

You never know what you'll find with these '62s

I am working on a 62 Dart 330 sedan, it was original black but I have gone back with exterior of white. I will have to redo the seat covers and door panels, and wife is a "blue" fan (fanatic!). So yep they will be probably blue and ??? combo. The original seats /door panels were black/grey that seems so common back then. What color should I go with for the inside A pillow trim, the dash ( I bet the instrument pod as a satin black?). All suggestions appreciated.

Best thing to do is search online for color combinations. In the back of the factory service manual has colors and trim also.

^^^^^^ Thanks that is what I needed!!!!!! I redid mine back in white not black as we live in the country and I have never had a black car that I could keep clean for even 5 minutes! Plus white forgives my body work!!! ha

I thought my 62 was close but it does seem a bit off. This is an aftermarket advertised as 62 Savoy only. Was that Pattern in a base Dart? Go, Joe, Go! Get er done.
