I chose my "classic car insurance co" by how they answered my first question: Do you insure cars with rollbars? One answered yes.

And dragweek participants keep the police at bay... by driving at legal speeds and driving insured and tagged legal street vehicles.

I think you have that about right. But i guess there are a lot of racecars driven on the street!

I should have not said a ET time, as many cars without roll bars are quicker than 11.50, just for NHRA can't go quicker without the roll bar.
But for a "Street" Car a roll bar sort of kills the street vibe and makes it a hassle to load up 1/2 dozen friends in the car.
On the other hand I differentiate between "Muscle Car", "Pony Car", and "Sports Car" which the general public generally refer to "Muscle Cars".
I also hate when the news calls "Street Racing", "Drag Racing". Heck, some call doing a burn out, drag racing... How can I be racing when I'm not even moving :) I like the term "Turning expensive tires into smoke!"

If it's registered & insured & working head lights/brake lights etc.
driven on the street
then, it's a street car

some will put up with a lot of stuff to drive a barely
street-able car on public roads
those that may not fit some peoples
"personal views of the 'finite definition',
of what 'they deem, a streetcar',
but, it certainly fits a shitload of the hobby today

but, if it's street driven, with all the legal requirements
so then, it's a street car

the cars, like on Street Outlaws, for example
really are racecars with plates, some will argue 'not a streetcar' etc.
they can be street driven,
But also, just racing on a public road, out in the boonies
towed there on a trailer,
doesn't make it a streetcar

that some hardly, if any, NOW, really rarely drive on public roads

they just call them streetcars for their status, pride, ego's,
or the show personas etc.

even a fully caged car, tube chassis car,
can still be a streetcar
it may not be comfortable, may pass everything but a gas station
but;
I've seen many, many of them drive 100's of miles
from event to event or even cruises, with little to no issues

Heck, nearly all of daily driven 'street cars' wouldn't pass state inspection because nearly all of them had straight pipes! Also, nearly all of my daily drivers were not race cars even though nearly all of them made lots of passes down the 1/4 mile including my /6 Belvedere. One thing that the Belvedere did that none of my race cars ever did was win a race lol. My old 10.60 road runner wasn't registered so you can say it wasn't a street car but it was mild enough that it would have been enjoyable on the street....at least enough for me to like it out there. My high 9 second car would not have been enjoyable....and it wasn't all that enjoyable at the track either!

NHRA legal cage puts things over the line. Need a back seat for the fans. I always think of "Street car" in terms of our b bodies or something of the same vintage. Seems everybody has their own ideas and thats what makes it interesting and fun. If everybody thought the same things would be boring.

Defined by the guy who's driving. It's on the street right? Street car.

I feel a lot revolves around motor choices and setbup. Street motor or race motor. Heard that a lot over the years.

Now you are getting closer to my definition. If it won't run on pump gas, i have zero interest, and it's not a street car. Put a little good gas in for racing, or for boost or nitrous, okay, but it better drive through in-n-out on pump, and not rattle itself to death. It doesn't bother me to have to lower the window net to get my burger and coke, in fact it's kinda fun!

Holes in the hood have nothing to do with street cars. Here's an example.

Yeah...gas station friendly. Even if you have to drive from pump to pump cause your mileage is so bad. Pass everything on the road but a gas station mmmhmmm.

Steet car: anything that you can occasionally put up with that is licensed and insured.
Daily driver: whatever you can put up with every day
