Purchased new leaf springs

I’m in the process of doing a refresh on my rear axle & leaf springs. You can remove the spring hanger from the body bracket-4 nuts to the rear. For safety, make sure the rear axle is supported if still in place.....Jim

Okay thanks Jim I new there had to be a logical explanation I just panicked and went wtf but after you saying that I went I reread the official Mopar manual and of course it says bolts not bolt grrrr. I have a jack stand holding up that side I haven't taken the other side off yet. Again thank you I do love this forum lol.

Well I got the passenger side on not to bad on bolts being difficult but I did let them sit for 5 days with liquid wrench lol.

I replaced mine a while ago, I'd like to say I didn't have any problems but that would be a lie. Don't do what I did!. I removed the bolt from the front of the leaf spring with little effort. I then started removing the leaf spring from the rear shackle. When I forced the bolt out the leaf spring, the leaf spring unloaded and sprung nailing me in the jaw. It was like being hit by a sledge hammer. I saw stars and was sure I broke my jaw. Luckily in the end I ended up with a jaw that hurt like hell and was black and blue.
Obviously the leaf spring was still under load, and I had a severe case of head up my ***, thinking when I removed the front bolt and the spring unloaded the front half, then everything would be unloaded.....huge mistake!
After that hit by the leaf spring I believe I should have been a boxer, I don't have a glass jaw. Just saw stars and nothing broken!

Last weekend I took off air 30+ yr old air shocks and replaced them with Bilstein shocks as well as installed new Espo springs which gave me and my pops trouble installing. We experienced the same issues lol

Any spring is under load on the ground you have to raise the rear end or front end to have unsprung weight. Before working on any vehicle your very lucky to be alive.

Here's the final product the front end is still higher by 9/16" I'll have to fix. Do I need to get a front end alignment after adjusting the torsion bars ?

Changing the ride height will affect the alignment. Make your adjustments and when your happy with the height get an alignment.

Do the shops now adays even know how to do alignments on our old cars any more ?

I was able to take the Dodge for a test drive yesterday I could really feel the difference in throttle response to the rear wheels with new leaf springs I still need to lower the front end around 7/8 . I put a full tank of gas in it and checked it again.

I can't tell, do you still have the iso clamps on there? What size tires? Thanks.

Yes I put brand new ISO pads on it there the stock wheels 14×7 it might be because I went from a 5 leaf to a 6 leaf also.

The poly ones from Energy Suspension? How do you like them?
I purchased everything from ESPO there just the rubber ones like the ones that were on it . For being 45 years old the old ones didn't look that bad either.

I changed my springs in 2014 great price, replaced with a stock spec set. Installed . new bolts, nut's, everything new I did keep my iso clamps, the originals are made from a high durometer rubber so they really don't rot, they were like new. ride height was 1 inch higher than the old worn set. I think everything was about400.00 I forgot. took me two days in the summertime, lots of sweating and yes sore after that I am 55 now. painted all the brackets, axel all new finishes, well worth doing myself.

Does that also hold true when adjust the rear ride height, and not touching the front?

I know that raising the rear technically slightly lowers the front?

Raising the rear 1" or even a little more won't make much change in the front end if any but raising it a lot more will effectively reduce your caster and a sky high rear attitude will play games with the entire front end geometry. The car wasn't designed for huge rake angles and the front end will pay the price.
