How does the upper seat belt connect to the car (roof) on a car with lap belts only?

My 70 RR had a shoulder belt. It was attached directly to the roof through the headliner. You have to find the threaded hole for it. There was also a bracket that stored the loose end, so the shoulder belt was basically stretched out above the window when not in use ( which it never was). If your car has lap belts only, you have to change/add the lower seat belts for lower belts with the shoulder belt part.

Right, but is that hole there in a car that came with lap belts is the question.

Probably. I don't think they would have stamped out different body parts just for a seat belt option. Too much tooling involved.

Someone's got to have a 68-70 out there with the headliner removed that did not come with them from the factory.

I'm pretty sure you can find the upper mounting bolt hole by removing the trim panel above the window.

My '70 Charger had the non retractable shoulder belt. I don't think that it was an option, I thought they were standard.
I swapped in a 3 point retractable set from XV Motorsports. $150 for the set of 2. They are GREAT !

Most 68-70 Bodies had the holes for the shoulder harness, there was no 3 point of the style people are use to, it was a separate shoulder belt with it's own buckle...

My 68 does not have provisions for a shoulder harness, probably because it has no permanent roof...

I tried to drive with that shoulder belt attached a few times. Not fun. You can't lean forward. I wonder if you are required to use it if the car is so equipped under the states seat belt laws.

With my '70 Barracuda Gran Coupe, the shoulder belt was "stored" doubled up above the window trim. I only used it when I "intended" to go over 100 MPH. It was comfortable enough for me, just extra steps to use it. Forgot about the 2 latches though.
