There is no better way to make a grilled cheese sandwich than in a cast iron skillet.

Looks yummy. The only way to top that is with a grilled cheese cheeseburger, with the burger cooked on the grille.

If you will preheat the sandwich in the microwave it will not only save time in the pan , the core will already be warm before you brown the bread.

You guys serving either of these sandwiches Friday at noon on the Carlisle fairgrounds grandstand?

Yeah, I'm putting Submit on it this morning. She'll have have a dozen done by the end of the day today & I'll bring them on Friday. Don't worry, they'll be nice and hot again when I leave them out all day Friday in the hot Carlisle sun & heat. Free botulism burgers for everybody!

Same goes for fish or chicken...cast iron or NOTHING. We don't eat much fried food but if we do its cast iron all the way! BTW the burger looks great!

I've got my grandmother's cast iron skillet that was given to her when she was a little girl around 1925-30. It was given to me in the early 1980's. It is easy 100+ years old and has only been thoroughly cleaned once by me and once by her that we know of.

I like that you can just put the cast iron skillet into the oven to bake biscuits...no wooden or plastic handles to burn away.

Lodge is making the thin cast iron skillets again.

"Cast thin to create lightweight cast iron.
Blacklock has been tried and tested. During the process of discovery, we poured our proprietary recipe of iron as thin as we could and tested below established limits to determine the exact measurement for optimum weight without sacrificing any of the quality or durability cast iron cookware is known for. The result? Blacklock has a weight reduction of up to 25% and has been reinvented to lift, carry, and handle with ease."

With cast iron's low thermal conductivity, I prefer a thicker and heavier pan to help heat more evenly. I don't care how heavy it is. I like the handles though.

My Great, Great, Grandmother probably never cooked a meal without one. She always had a cook stove even when she visited us at the farm. I can still taste it, the best corn bread you ever had. The cook stove just seemed to add that much more flavor to things.

Never went camping without one either. Outdoor cooking on a campfire
