Getting read to install Hedman shorty headers on my 71 charger w383 and 906 heads. What is the best/easiest tool you can buy to remove the stock exhaust manifold studs from the heads? I've already read about heating the studs up with a torch beforehand so I'll be doing that as well.

Put 2 nuts on the stud, tighten them so the are together, and unscrew the stud it from the head using the inside nut. Very easy to do.

Probably a good idea to drain your radiator a little as some studs are into the water jackets on those heads.

Many types out there.

I like this style. The more pressure the tighter it grips.

Hedman Shorties

Power Steering on your car ?

Thanx Scott

I'll end up posting what method and tools I use to get the studs out.

Yes I have power steering and I expect to run into problems because of that.

Give those studs a few good whacks with a good sized hammer, right on the end-cold.

why are you removing the studs? I find them helpful when installing headers.... You will need a hammer to "adjust" the header tube with power steering, not so much with a 440 as a 383. FYI

I was able to use the studs in our 66 383. I bought stainless nuts and lock washers for all studs. Instructions listed to remove the left front two studs for installation. Would not move at all!!! Tried all tricks listed!!

Any luck ?

Want to know the fit with those headers and power steering

Thanx Scott
