This was included in my 727 output shaft seal box. No info on what it is. It’s an autozone part number 5206. I know what the seal is but what is the metal cylinder?

They are the rear trans seal and bushing that goes inside the rear of the tail shaft. I’m not sure if that’s for a 904 or 727 (also 4 speed).

90% of the time I help people out.. First of all I did not even know what the hell or why the hell it was in the box. Second of all I looked it up and no info on the bushing was mentioned. Plus I posted that from my phone.
These folks are telling you correctly - same tailshaft bushing and seal for auto or A833.
There's a special tool for removing and installing these too - at least there used to be, made by Miller.
Wonderful tool. Wonder if anyone makes it nowadays?

That's why I always try to help out if I can. I don't mind doing it also. Because there will be a day when I will need help and hopefully someone will step up to give a hand. Man the research I do before I ask a question on these sites. Sometimes the search engine just doesn't work out the way we want it to.

Anyone have the Miller Tool # for that remover? It's not a tough job to pull the tailhousing to replace the bushing. Just take a note of where the window in the bushing is located.

I appreciate the actual information it’s the wise *** that I was referring to.

@69a100

Why do you feel the need to do that?? Can you really not imagine that he may not know what all the bushings look like in a trans, and their exact locations?? I, for one, like to help when I can help, and like to be helped when I need help, not criticized for asking! There's a guy on FCBO who does the exact same thing, every single opportunity he gets. Is that you too??

You don't have to pull the tailhousing. You do it with the transmission in the car (or out) just fine, no disassembly required.

Sweet tool. Did not know it existed. Would have helped recently on a 904. Pulled the tail housing from under the car, took it to transmission shop. Cost me $20 too have it changed out. Separating the tail housing was the rough part.

I got good at it when I was swapping governors in and out.

I've been rebuilding TFs for close to 50 years now and never needed to replace the extension housing bushing in the car. If it wasn't bad on the bench it will out last the trans rebuild and can be done the next time. Don't put the drive shaft yoke in dry (like some other things)!
