TKO 500 Install - 1966 Coronet - SST Kit

Check your driveshaft angles immediately. I had havoc with my 71 runner and that keisler kit...which is who SST bought out and renamed themselves. They have not fixed the problem for the 71-74 b bodies because it won't work without cutting the body crossmember or a CV equipped driveshaft. Hopefully the 66 kit doesn't have that same issue.

thanks. will be checking

just looking at different spots to reroute wires right now

im gonna have to throw some real tko500 swap stuff eventually

now it’s just pull out back seat for now to get to the exhaust bolts...might not be oem but it’s what I see on this heap

anyhow...it was either slap a stick on this 66 or pull the trigger on a 2017 ACR Viper......im thinking im under the budget for sure

the plug is for the MSD Atomic EFI system

i moved electronics inside the car. got tired of diassembling connectors so made a pass through. i have a feeling i’ll probably be moving things around in the future at some point

exhaust is out of the way. i was thinking this is the time to slip in some schumacher headers

my next step is to drain the 727 and associated lines/transmission cooler

will start researching how to remove the 727...i heard engine need to be angled/lowered for removal too...not sure what that means yet...guess it’s in the service manual

Having the exhaust out is a nice thing. After that, it is all nuts and bolts. I like to plug the end with an unused trans yoke to keep fluid spillage to a minimum. I used to swap transmissions using a floor jack. I made jigs to fit as well. I made flat plates with a peg that locked into the floor jack. THe plates bolted to the trans case so the trans could not slip off. The main problem has always been that the car has to be placed pretty high off of the ground for clearance. The trans sitting on the floor jack sat so high, you almost always had to install or remove through the front of the car so the top of the bellhousing would clear. THEN with the car up so high, it was a strain of the neck trying to get the bell housing bolts on or off. You can't sit up and when you are laying down, your arms are often too short. I use air ratchets and wobbly sockets for bolts that are not a straight access but the ratchet sometimes starts at a fast rate and the sockets slip off.

nuthin special to report

just draining the 727 and going to be draining the transmission cooler and removing the lines

more of nothing to report

looks like I’m keeping the manifolds and exhaust setup as is....just gonna do some additional heat wrap on top of the heat wrap I have

letting gravity drain out some fluids for the time being...then will send some low pressure compressed air through the transmission lines....then pull the line altogether

I figure if I spend 15mins a month on this project will get done when my great grandkids are shooting laser beams and flying them damned hot rod air car thingamabobs

Holy crap....My A/C install took less time!

more of not a lot to report

removed dipstick and starter. also tossed on the summit deep trans pan and removed the moroso deep pan because I didn’t want to chew up the Moroso upon removal

gonna drop Coronet back onto wheels and let it settle then take some driveline measurements as it sits now to have something to compare to when the TKO get fitted up

still doing some electrical routing too
