in mid January. I'm probably going to keep using it for as long as I can..... :(

I upgraded both of my PC's to Windows 10 Pro a few months ago. Since I didn't want to have to reconfigure and reinstall everything I just did the upgrade right over Windows 7. I have been impressed with how easy it was. I also like the fact that I don't have any weird OS ghosts from version 7 like so many upgrades before that would leave little remnants behind of the previous OS. Also happy that now I can fully use the 24 GB of memory in my system as I was previously limited to 16GB with non-pro version.

How many are still using older versions than 7? Any Windows 95, 98 or ME fanboys?

I also did the "free" upgrade on all my PCs. Why pay for something that was designed to track everything you do and make money off your data?

I like the old start menu and such. So, I installed a program called https://www.startisback.com/

It's cheap and effective. Free to try, $3.99 to buy. You won't really know you upgraded to WIN10.

Stop WIN10 spying with https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/spybot_anti_beacon_for_windows_10.html

Actually, for the vast majority of users...

...absolutely nothing will happen after support ends.

Except you may stop downloading dozens of gigs of "updates" every week.

I pretty much already stopped downloading all that crap. About 8 months ago an 'update' messed up my laptop and had to do a restore to an earlier date....

Haven't had windows in our family since 2006. Went Mac and never looked back.......

WWWWOOOWWW!!! Still using Win 7??? OK I guess so but why hang onto something that will no longer be supported. I did Win 10 right after the Beta release and have had near perfect results. No losses of my data, and the only glitches have come from out dated drivers for some peripherals and such. My brother did loose his printer being used because of this but he slaves off of mine when he needs to print something through the WiFi portion. I guess that I am some what tech savvy with this stuff as I have been utilizing computers since the early 80's when I began writing basic language programs for the Insurance Agency I worked for back then. Learned a lot especially in how to manipulate the DOS and the Registry/Shell to get rid of the left over coding from previous Windows installs and App/Program upgrades and changes. As for hanging on to Win 7? I guess go ahead if one must. But in the reality of it all, Big Brother will always have control over us with these machines as long as we continue to rely upon them as we do...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

I currently support about 350 computers and related network equipment.

We are about 50% win10 and 50% win7.

I have no plans to rush to upgrade the win7 machines.

Previously, my job included second and third level support of about 10,000 computers.
Including the deployment system used to deploy new machines and software/updates.
Again, no plans to rush O/S upgrades due to "end of support".
We ran XP until the hardware aged out.

We did however, wholesale upgrade from win2000 to XP and fortunately were not heavily invested in vista/win8, but did move those machines to 10.

One thing I have noticed is that MS has a "nag screen" embedded in one or more of the updates, that splashes an annoying "support is ending" window and must be agreed with.

Boo, hiss.

In fact I have several machines that I have simply turned off updates.

No ill effects yet.

Not sure about the home edition, but on the Enterprise version of win10, you CAN'T turn off updates. At least not without registry mods.

yep I liked the Windows 7 Pro

could have upgraded for free

not a huge fan of the Windows 10
I loved the Windows 7 Pro, from the 1st day

just different, it'll take some time to get used to it
I'm not a big fan of wholesale changes,
like new operating systems have

such is life

what ya' gonna' do

a bunch of people I know did the W8 Vista (?)
they had nothing but problems
they hated it
I'm glad I never did that one

I have windows XP. My computer will not accept an upgrade, and I refuse to buy another computer that will become obsolete in a few years. Just like I refuse to buy a new vehicle. I have 7 running vehicles, and 3 insured and tagged. Newest one of the 7 is a 1988 Diplomat. When my computer will not "play well" on line, it goes in the trash, and I am offline.

Me too, I hate W10.
Heard it wasn't one of the greatest systems....

My desk top and lap top are pretty old with my desk top being much older and used to have XP Pro on my desk top. Imo, it was the best system ever made! I'm also the same way with vehicles. My newest one is a 97 Cummins powered Dodge and my 95 Dakota. Recently bought a 96 Dakota that's pretty nice but my 95 runs, drives and gets better mileage than the 96 and even at that, it's not saying much lol. The 96 gets better mileage on the highway but in town mpg sucks big time. The 97 beats both of them hands down!

Could you please tell us how to shut off the update nag? Mine does the little popup that it's not loading, and after awhile of ignoring it, I suddenly have a supposed counterfeit version of W running?

Where does ‘Vista’ stand in all this? Lol. Prob gonna have to update to a newer mainframe one of these days!!

I have an HP desktop that I bought in 2009. It was originally running Vista, but I upgraded it to Win 7 Pro and I have had no issues with it so far. Microsoft ran their bug program in 2017 nagging people to upgrade to Win 10, but I turned that off. I don't need that on my desktop; it doesn't even have a touch screen capability.

I bought an ASUS laptop this year, and it had Win 10 Home on it, but not much you can do about that these days. Mainstream computers are going to run Win 10 (or for twice the price) Mac Catalina or Mojave and nothing else. Not a fanboi of Macs so Windows it was. So far it is doing all right. I made certain tweaks to make it appear like the classic Win 7 interface, so I'm happy with it.

As long as the desktop continues to run OK, I'll keep it Win 7. The fact that Microsoft will stop supporting Win 7 next January doesn't worry me a bit.

i tried windows 10.........then got my 7 rebuilt.
