Dash vin tag replacement

Following what has been said against doing anything to the VIN Tag. The stern black and white view would mean that any car with a damaged dash that needed to either be replaced or repainted should be scrapped. A car that needs the VIN Tag to be refinished is now worthless. The tag is just a car part. The OP is not trying to change a vehicles heritage, merely returning the car to its original condition to the best of his ability. Why beat him up about it.

No one is beating anyone here.....He has a car with a state issued VIN plate that apparently matches the body etc., per his post....Whats wrong with that? It is legit as it is in the eyes of the law.....Is it the "laws" fault the buyer didn't do his research before purchasing? I think not......

Sometimes you just can't get what you want and that is the hard truth......

You yourself can call Chrysler and discuss your viewpoint with them......Report back what you find out...

I will bow out to your expertise and also confess that I won't follow your instructions nor report back.

I feel for the next SOB that buys that car and can not get it inspected, plated or titled on count of someone's act of arrogance. Car then become property of the state and is crushed.
Doesn't make any difference if the original vin tag is found the rivets to attach it are illegal to possess. Federal offences are not to be taken lightly.

Yeap...I find it funny how someone drops a red X on my post for just explaining the truth....Wonder if you will get the same.....

Pretty pathetic....IMHO

Guess some people are just hard learners. I don't see this ending well

I would rather have the red X than prison time.

Why would they not be able to inspect, plate or title the car? The Vin tag is an official tag issued by the state of Florida. It's 100% legal. It might not be the original but it is legal.

VIN rivets are illegal to possess? Where do you guys get this stuff from?

I guess ECS shouldn't be selling these VIN plate kits anymore?

If your car has its original VIN tag on the dash you are free to remove it, restore it, and reinstall it and not go to jail. Attaching it with repop rivets is fine.

Completely Agree....in relation to the rivets....

There is nothing illegal with selling or to have in possession the VIN rivets......

What if you're smart enough to know how to reuse the OE rivets... will you still be bringing me rations and maybe some magazines?? Man I'd be in jail for a LONG time if it was illegal to possess rivets!

View attachment 690531 At somepoint someone removed the original vin tag off the dash of my ‘70 Belvedere and added a Florida tag in its place. The numbers match the other vin numbers on the car/title. Is it possible to order a Mopar vin tag and replace the Florida tag? If so how?
If the tag bothers you why the heck did you buy the car in the first place? I would have passed on the car if it is something you are planning to do a big restoration on. For a driver quality car who gives a ****? Leave the VIN tag alone.

I never said the tag bothered me, nor was I questioning the intent of my purchase of the vehicle. What bothers me is some of these ridiculous responses. Let’s just end this thread right here.

I highly doubt the presence of a state vin tag
effects the value of low level b body very much.
certainly not enough to be bothered to go thru any kind of hassle or expense to try to change it.

Anyone wanting to do this just go ahead, disrespect the law, I am tired of stupid.

Thanks for the ESC tip. Took out the dash today and I'm about ready to mount my body on the rotisserie to work on the mini tub and spring locator kits then it's off to be media blasted. Then the fun begins.

Do states really go to these lengths? They strip down your car, check all of the VIN stampings before issuing a title and tags?

I live in MD, and they are pretty tight on their title rules, but all I need to register a car is my signed title with the VIN, my proof of insurance and a check. If I'm ever pulled over, or if there is any question as to the ID of the vehicle, they go to the VIN on the dash...as long as the two match, they are fine. I can see where there may be a need to go deeper into the core support or other stampings, but if I report it stolen, I'm letting them know the dash doesn't match those numbers.

Here if those numbers don't match you had better have lots of paper work from the DOT to explain why.

You're talking numbers on the Title, VIN, and body stampings? I honestly didn't think the States paid that much attention to a 40+ yo car anymore unless it's reported stolen. That's an extreme amount of work to get tags on your car.
