Hello all, are all B body engine bays physically the same? I ask because I purchased a set of headers for my project that says they will fit a 71 Charger, my project is a 67 Belvedere II. They weren't expensive, and I was pretty sure the bays are the same, so I rolled the dice. I figured I should ask here before I get much further along.

Thanks

62 to 65 B Bodies are different than 66 and up. I don't know the answer to your question, but the 71up was a pretty significant body change. If you know the brand of headers you bought, try to find an online application catalog and look up the part numbers for both years. If they are different numbers, that should be your answer.

BBD has you going in the right direction. They will need some modifying to make them work.

The space between torsion bars I would think is the important difference.

They should fit without modification... Every suspension component including the K member and torsion bars can be unbolted from a 67 Belvedere & bolted to a 71 Charger... The only differences are sway bar location & steering box mounting angle.... Neither effect the headers....

The next change came in 1973 for the B body with the iso-mount K frame. But even then the header should be the same.

Steering box angle will affect header fitment. Thats why they use to be advertised as being 68-72 and not 66-72.

No, steering box angle won't effect header fitment... The change in steering box angle occurred for B bodies in 71 when they changed to the same angle as E bodies since they basically went to a E body engine compartment... Same firewall, same inner fenders, same frame rails....

Awesome! thank you very much, I appreciate first hand knowledge. I did some tape measuring today, and short of stuffing the B engine in there in place of the mighty slant 6, it sure looked like they should fit. These are shorty headers that have the collectors ending above the oil pan height, and the pipes will be running forward as this is a turbo application. I will be very pleased if these $86 Shanghai Specials work. :)

good thing it's Halloween cause there is a lot of scary in that statement!
I would be afraid of gasket leaks with a cheap pair of headers
There is more to headers than body fit

Oh, I know.. TTIs on the last one. These are stainless and have 7/16" flanges, which is much thicker than most cheapies. They tuck VERY close to the block, I may try them on my Barracuda. Wouldn't it be something if cheap headers for big block A bodies existed too :)

I used hedman shorty headers in my 73. Manual steering. No ac. 440. You have to use a mini starter. You can replace the starter without removing anything else. They fit really well. I bolted them to the engine before I put it in. No problems.

Tape measure says I have room to spare, they are far from equal length race headers, but way above manifolds, and were cheap. I hope they work well.
