Just for fun I threw the end of my leaf springs in Evaporust. After a bit of cleaning 4 colors are now visible, which I thought was cool. I think I see a blue/pink on one spring and a brown/white on the other. the car in question is a '70 GTX with the Dana 60 and heavy duty suspension. Car was built in Los Angles at the end of December '69. Even though my car will never be a show car (at least not anytime soon) I want to replicate the colors. Have a look, and let me know what you think the colors are.

Great pics and thanks for sharing...those colors have been well documented!

Great to see how original markings were done. The next important question is do you see remnants of black paint behind the colors? Or do you think they were natural steel?

Your first picture I see black paint underneath the blue paint...

So I shaved the blue paint with a razor blade. It would appear that the springs were natural or that the black paint was super thin as I couldn't get any layer of black off. What appears to be black in the first picture is actually a drip of WD40.

So, after a soak in Evaporust (what fun that was), I suspect that the springs were indeed black, for those keeping score. It sure looks like black paint on the zinc liners. Though what's to say someone in 1985 painted the springs...

My RR was also built at the LA plant. My initial thought was that the leafs were possibly natural. However, when I separated the leafs, the inner portions had remnants of black paint, that appeared to have seeped through & between the leafs. Paint was also found under some of the plastic spacers, and between the zinc liners. Some of the paint patterns appeared to be vertical “runs” like the leafs been hung lengthwise & “dipped” in paint after assembly....Jim

I see blue/pink and brown/yellow. Can you share the part number associated with each set of colors along with the date codes from the leaf springs and your SPD? We OE junkies want to know the details....

Will do. I'll post sometime later today.

Car SPD is Jan.05, though the Mylar door sticker is December. The left leaf # is 2539794 with the brown/white stripe. The right with the blue/pink # is 2539964.
