Where would you buy a complete, performance built A-727 today?

Hughes Performance sells them... Check Jegs,Summit etc etc.. But these guys will have better options I'm sure.

Here is a link to Hughes page. We put one in the roadrunner. Had a slight issue with a leak but Hughes stood by their work and paid shipping both ways to make it right. http://www.hughesperformance.com/street-strip-trans/ The only draw back is they come in all black. I guess you could ask for a raw body.

I've been asking around also, keep hearing ATI , Coan, Cope. Not to hijack but does anyone know who has 66' up 727 mounts into a early trans crossmember?.

Another option is to find a local Mopar racer or hot rodder that builds transmissions on the side. A buddy did the trans for my 65. We filled it with A&A parts.

Built all my own 727's since 1972. Many thousand bracket race runs. The only 727 I had made from me is John Cope. I have bought the parts from Cope for the last 3 727's I sold to others. They are all happy with the results. A John Cope 727 will work very well for you.

Joe Chrisman of Tranzact Indy Indy. In. 317-846-4933 He builds quite a few in the early case! Also builds valve bodies for street or all out race!

In my 64, I mounted up a 440, with a 67 727. Only 'mod' I had to do, on the stock trans crossmember, was move the mount box back 1/2". Used the right year mount for the 727.
Take note though, I stayed with the 64 BB K-member, leaving the engine in the stock position. Some use a later K-member, to move the engine back. That makes for a different measurement on the trans crossmember.

Thanks for that info , i was under the impression that i needed a "special" mount to use a later trans with a 64' crossmember . Car is getting a AlterKation front end so not sure what will happen with exact engine mount location.

I don't know anything on the AlterKation front end, what all changes are made.

But, that being said, you can always do what I did (or, buy other modified parts).
I had already built the 727, so mounted it to my bare block, and dropped both into the hole. Once the engine mounts were in place, easy measuring to see what change was needed. I also shoved a 67 8 3/4" rear in.

Builder's choice. Mine is just a street hot rod. Wanted to keep clearance from the firewall, and crossram manifold.

wouldn't swapping the 64 tail shaft to the newer 67 trans work??

I don't think so.
I had been told, by good sources, on a 64 727, only the tail shaft and tail shaft housing off a 65 727, would work. That's to switch over to a slip yoke.

Hmmmm, I want to buy a new TCI built 727 with converter to put behind my 426 but I think they only advertise 67 & up. I want to retain the 64 shift cable as original. I am ok with the original ball & trunnion setup.

Miller is right in post #15. A 65 tail housing has the park cable. Last year for it.

I have 65 BB cores. I can build one to suit as well.
