So i am working on replacing drum brakes on my 63 Sport Fury and discovered the axle nut on the drivers side was smaller than the passengers side. Is that normal?? I got both of them off no problem, just curious if there is a reason for that.

It's not normal. There is no reason for it. Probably just a replacement nut, on one side.

With a same sized inner diameter? I guess I just assumed that because the nut was smaller the axle was smaller too.

The spindles are the same, side to side from the factory. Some one could have turned down and rethreaded one side to repair the thread, but it is probably just a different OD nut with the same thread. If one of your nuts fit both sides, then you have your answer.

I think the OP is talking about the "rear" axle nuts. The ones that you have to remove before pulling the rear drums. In any case, they should be the same size....
