Hello all, I need a little help with wiring. I am swapping in a Mopar 360 from a 1979 Dodge Magnum that was running an driving when I pulled it. I need some guidance on how to hook up the wiring. Please see the attached pictures. The loose wires (blue, black, brown, green, and red) are coming from the Satellite (I am not sure if this is factory or hacked together) and I have the 6 prong terminal coming from the engine.

The black wire goes to the alternator and I am thinking the blue and brown wires could connect to the existing blue and black from the resistor from the Magnum (shown in a picture).

I know I need to get to the coil, and it looks like another wire to the alternator. I was only able to find wiring diagrams for the Satellite and not the Magnum so I need some help on what I need to splice into to get it running. I appreciate the help!

This would be a great time to convert to factory electronic ignition, if it hasn't got it already.

Notwithstanding that, I'd just use the car's wiring and discard the '79 wiring.

Discard everything “‘79” and use the factory wiring. If you still have the old engine and the wiring harness on it your in good shape. If not, the Year One search for the engine harness or wires off of what ever part your looking to connect will have to be made or bought.

Thanks guys for the feedback! Unfortunately, I do not have the original engine harness, so it sounds like I can purchase one. The 360 does have lean burn. I have not fully researched that system, but I believe the carb and system work together. Can I remove all of that stuff too and just add a new engine harness? Also, do the 5 wires coming from the Satellite look factory?

Thanks again for all the help.

I put a '79 Aspen 225 into a '72 Dart Swinger back in the early eighties. The ONLY thing I had to do was modify the slot in the '72 distributor hold-down bracket to accept the larger 5/16' bolt. The car's still running just fine with the points distributor. I had it out this past Friday.

If you want to use the '79 engine harness, you're going to have to do some re-wiring under the dash and through the firewall plug to add the second (crank) circuit to the dual ballast resistor.
