You may have seen the movie or read Tom Clancy's book The US goes after drug cartels and the US becomes the bad guy.

Could the US destroy the cartels? Maybe, but there would be pictures of dead children on the evening news. Right now we see decapitated heads done by the cartels. I think if we go to war it has to be completely or just not go.

I'm trying hard to keep this apolitical so try not to get this banned.

There is no easy answer... Like you said, go in with a serious commitment & see it through or don't go at all.... It can't be another political quagmire... And your also right innocent people will die.... But they've been dying, just not as publicly cause it hasn't been part of an agenda...

very good books, and Excellent movies, some of Harrison fords best imo.

the thing you are talking about,is the war on drugs.
except, there is no war on drugs, not really.
its just a big job title given to cover the fact that the usa is one of the biggest importers on the planet.
( guess who the biggest arms dealer in the world is too )
the cia and the dea has been running drug smuggling and helping drug cartels since the 60-s.
its all about the Money, and its a game played daily.

as far as the killings down in Mexico, those are ruthless killers period.
thats a terrible thing for the innocents but unless you did send an army in,
nothings going to change....those people are intent on having things Their way,
and theres only one way to stop people like that. :elmer:

As much as I’d like to see it - I to think it would be another Middle East quagmire. W/o the rockets and major bombings but plenty of bloodshed and no way out. We’d be there forever and what about the mess in Central America - do you go there too? I think it would be a bloody mess. Somehow some way we need to stop the demand in this country. If there was no demand they wouldn’t send the narcotics here.

They're vermin. The only way to deal with sub-human vermin is to eradicate them.
If we as a country don't have the stomach for that, then we simply do what we can to
stop them at the border.

Ok I wonder why nobody here ask me how is this war on drugs here where we live it, me being the only Mexican guy here, a gold member( love this place and you guys) and I live in michoacan, the most dangerous state in Mexico and Uruapan the city where everything start, just last Tuesday some guys in a truck chase me on the road, came out of nowhere and yelling things at me, luckily for my I kept my van on a very good conditions and I was able to surpass this criminals, this is an hydra with a 1000 heads, don't you think Mexico and our government haven't send soldiers to fight this war? Yes they do, and the result? ambush death and people complaining about the true roll of the army against this cartels, they have send thousands of federal police against them, the result, the same, this cartels are so pulverized in their actions and so coordinated that has become increasingly difficult to fight them, what a police can do against a barret 50, i like to know since that weapon is ban here, I know you don't like to hear this but we provide drugs and blood and you provide money and guns in an endless circle of death and sorrow, the tragedy on the Lebaron family has no name, because I cant find something similar to name it.

The outcome of this... nobody knows it, as long as money( us dollars) are involved in this equation the result is nothing but dark, the current strategy of the Mexican government is,to say the least stupid and unbelivable, hugs against bullets? What kind of practical joke is this, but as long there's a demand for drugs willing to pay in cash always gonna be someone willing to supply it, no matter the cost or the blood, the worst is still to come for us Mexicans, but... believe me when I tell you this guys, we as a country are mourning the deaths of Sonora, we as a country are outraged about this episode, we as Mexican are not a bad people, we are people that love to work, to smile, to invite you to the table if you are hungry people like you in love of their country, my country, MI MÉXICO LINDO, is a shame for me to speak in these terms of my country but this is the way it is today, the bottom in not at sight yet so we can climb our way up...
Ps
Am sorry but I felt my comment to political to be in the GD area,so can you move it to the PF please.

The only thing I don’t agree with you on is that this is political. It’s definitely a social issue. And an international one at that. Since it impacts both of our countries soooo much we need to work together to try and resolve it. A very big part of the problem lies here in the US with the unrelenting demand. Mexican cartels are supplying our insatiable demand. We can only solve that demand issue here. We both need to do more - it’s a very complex social issue. Politicians will never solve it. Hugs will never solve it. If we can curb the demand the cartels will cease to exist.

Its time for you Leon to apply for a visa, take your family come here and open a dry cleaners anywhere in the US....
When people are dirt poor, when they have no future, when they are desperate what do they do? They cross illegally into the USA looking for a future free of violence and find a job or they stay in Mexico and work for a drug cartel.
Ive was told by the son of a successful Mexican business owner, there is no reason why Mexico cant be economically like Canada.
We fight injustice all over the world, yet our next door neighbor his house is being destroyed a little more everyday and our answer is to build a bigger fence so debris dont land on our property.

Everything we import from China, I wish we could import from Mexico. Let the rest of the world support China. Mexico cannot by itself win the war on drugs, the cartels are to powerful. Mexico needs our help and its a common sense reason that until we help these people, our country will continue to be subject to illegal immigration and illegal drugs coming over the boarder. No man made physical barrier ever stoped desperate people or the want for illegal drugs, not when the demand in this country is what it is.
I suspect the Mexican government has to take some sort of action, as beautiful of a country and people Mexico is, I feel tourism will soon suffer which will only result in more unemployment

“Soon suffer”. Tourism to MX has already suffered a great deal. CA sends a good percentage of the tourists to MX. No one wants to go there any more because they feel it’s too dangerous. I love MX and it’s people. I haven’t been there for years because of all this stuff going on. Leon is a good man and typical of a good hard working Mexican citizen. You can tell he’s distraught about these things tearing his country apart. This is so sad, so complex and needs something done - everyone can agree on that. “What” is the true challenge.

Mi amigo Steve, you know how much I appreciate you and your comments toward me my friend, are always welcome, you still owe me a beer, we have this conversation before, and you know very well how i love Mexico, btw I do have a Visa, a tourist one, but I like to see the glass half full not half empty, and like me, millions that want to make this country again a beautiful place to live, sadly, this is happening in my time with my generation, but like me millions would do whatever it takes to inherit a better country for our children or our children children's, this cant go on forever, and only if we work together ( US and Mexico) this will solve in a long period of time but not with narrow views of the problem, but with decided actions on both country's.

The cartels are battling over the right to sell drugs (especially fentanyl) in America. When we as a country collectively stop buying what the cartels are selling, things will improve.

@coronet68 i dont think you said anything political at all.
i think you said what a real man in your country feels and its a privilege for us to read about your struggles down there and i Pray you stay safe.

way back in the daze, when i first started learning cars,
i worked for a guy who wasnt really nice to mexican people.
esp the ones who stopped by his shop for help.
( ill never forget the 1 brake car...)

so,i would go over to where they stayed and do various repairs for them.
what always stuck in my mind, was the friendly attitude towards me,
the way they all shared the places they stayed at while saving their money.
and the way they would cook food and everyone would eat like a community.
they also worked Harder than most people around those parts...just saying.
they say Respect is earned, well those people sure deserved it.

One thing that you have to consider if an attack is made on the Mexican cartel is that there are many here in the US along with the MS-13. One strike in Mexico could mean many retaliatory actions taking place right here.

I believe MS-13 originates in El Salvador. But they are another set of maggots we do have to deal with here. The other thing is the actual Mexican gangs here don’t give a rats *** about what happens to their countrymen while they’re here in the US. They’re only concerned about the score here.

Free drugs and then the Cartels have no purpose and the addict problem will sort itself out.

I've seen the gang violence and the drugs, up front, for the last 27 yrs. It's a socioeconomic issue. It's all about the money.

While your at it stop having cops & EMT's administer Narcan... The addicts try to solve the problem but Cops & EMT's get in their way....
