Oh Boy....These Guys Are In BIG Trouble

The big question would be why non-compatible materials were even there. Someone other than the peons screwed up.

I think we had ammonia-based products to clean the floor and bleach-based products to wash dishes.
I don't remember the intended uses.
Either way, all the employees knew not to mix them.
I do remember I used the wrong product on the kitchen floor once and got in trouble.
I didn't mix them, but what I used smelled like bleach, and the manager freaked out.

Edit for clarity.

The sodium hypochlorite is strong enough to kill someone by itself if not diluted and used with proper ventilation. Mixing cleaning chemicals is a recipe for disaster! We used sodium hypochlorite when I worked at a water treatment plant, the stuff would take your breath away if you catch a wiff of it.

I have 4 gallons of nitric acid that will do the same even when mixed correctly.

Same with ammonia. I do a few large-scale ammonia compressor and chiller systems a year for a winery customer. They have them all over their facility and I was exposed to an 'unintentional release' a few years back. I luckily wasn't hurt but caught the first whiff, and knew to run like heck upwind. Not only does it suck your air out and burn but it triggers the panic reflex. There have been a couple ammonia-related evacuations there over the years, not good...the news shows up, fire department has to go in and seal the leak.

Ammonia is very dangerous to work with. Before they used liquid sodium hypochlorite at the plant they used to used liquid chlorine gas. One night they had a leak, and the whole area around the plant was overcome with chlorine gas,one of the guys went in and shut the tank off. He possibly prevented a serious event that may have killed people if he had not done what he did. It was a whole railroad tanker car full of it!

We are no longer allowed to carry bleach on the job.
