The big question would be why non-compatible materials were even there. Someone other than the peons screwed up.

Same with ammonia. I do a few large-scale ammonia compressor and chiller systems a year for a winery customer. They have them all over their facility and I was exposed to an 'unintentional release' a few years back. I luckily wasn't hurt but caught the first whiff, and knew to run like heck upwind. Not only does it suck your air out and burn but it triggers the panic reflex. There have been a couple ammonia-related evacuations there over the years, not good...the news shows up, fire department has to go in and seal the leak. The sodium hypochlorite is strong enough to kill someone by itself if not diluted and used with proper ventilation. Mixing cleaning chemicals is a recipe for disaster! We used sodium hypochlorite when I worked at a water treatment plant, the stuff would take your breath away if you catch a wiff of it.
We are no longer allowed to carry bleach on the job.
