Awesome project and great thread. Way to stick to a long term project! I've painted a few projects and unmasking stuff to get a look is way worse than waiting to open a Christmas present....I don't know how you walked away from unmasking it the day after spraying the trunk and engine compartment....I would have been all over that. You are a very patient man as shown in your prep work and parts collection...well done. This will be one to be proud of when you're done!
Your fly in the door reminds me of a Bronco II that I painted. It was a two tone black and silver vehicle with the silver being the middle panel. I fixed some surface rust around the mirror mount and resprayed the silver in enamel. Being silver, I had talked to an "old paint guy" on how to keep it from streaking and he said...tack coat...you'll barely see color on the vehicle....then spray it till you're damn near afraid it will run....then reduce by 50% and really fan out spray while the second coat will still take on the paint. I followed his instructions and it turned out beautiful without a hint of streaking and laid out really smooth. Closed up the garage and walked out only to walk back in about 3 hours later to find a black beetle had landed smack dab in the middle of the door and decided to crawl about 2 inches before dying. F*@K.....sand down and shoot front to back again!

Well, it's Saturday.....
Monday I'll get it out of the booth unwrap it & bring it home.....

I think it has potential... I see something in the fourth photo that I didn't see in person... I think it must be a weird reflection, I know the hood is super straight so it can't have that big of a flaw...
I know I have a run in the tail panel but it is easily fixable.. The whole car is gonna get color sanded & buffed...
Waiting till Monday to get a good look at it's gonna drive me nuts....

Thanks! Yeah, it doesn't show in the seventh photo which shows the same area pretty well... Has to be a reflection...

Yeah, I wish... I was 42 & highly motivated when I first dragged the car home.. Now I'm over 60 & it's a little tougher to get moving...
Heck I was in my early 50's when I dragged my other project home & I was still highly motivated... These last few years that has definitely taken a nose dive, but I'll push myself to get them done cause I've never liked to leave a project unfinished...

Ok, not much going on, but I'm cleaning up lots of parts that will be going back on the car & amongst them is the headlight buckets.... I've scrubbed them in the past with marginal results, I've had them re-plated but they never look right.... Not saying they look right this time either but considering how easy what I did was I'm pretty happy....
I tossed them in my ultrasonic carb tank with a mixture of water & Simple Green.....
Only one at a time so the missing one is in the tank.... And I'll post a photo when they are all done...

Ok.. I'll re-evaluate them when the sun shines but currently I'm pretty happy with this...

Years back when I had the Charger apart for paint, I took my headlight buckets to the bench grinder with the wire wheel. After cleaning them I developed a mean headache. I read later that the galvanizing treatment has some dangerous chemicals. I must have breathed in some airborne crap and momentarily melted my brain.

They look great. When I did mine I used the same method as the late Dave Walden used on one of his restorations. It was basically using 0000 wool and mothers polish. It took a long time but the results are very similar to yours with a lot more work. Keep up the great work, really enjoying your thread.

So I'm still cleaning up parts, A couple days ago I cleaned to first layer of filth off my horns & I noticed what looked like a spare key taped to the horn mount.... Today I spent a little more time scrubbing on them & cut the old tape away... What I found was way cooler then I expected... The spare key was actually both keys & not some hardware store copies... These are original 1968 Chrysler keys... The key shape changed in 69 so 68 keys are easily recognized....
