Did you know there are only two countries in the world not on the metric system. USA and a small African country with less than 100,000 people.
There are three. The U.S.A., Myanmar (54 million people) and Liberia (4.9 million people). But those two countries widely use the metric system and both of their governments are working to adopt it officially.

In keeping with the original theme, Mayanmar, in a partnership with a Hungarian company is planning to build 300-500 long haul electric buses for use in the country, and have contracted to build thousands more for sale to Singapore, India and Sri Lanka. :)

They say electric heat is 100% efficient. That's because it is the standard against which all other forms of heat are measured against.
yella71 said:
Where does everyone think electric comes from? It has to be generated some where and those plants run on some kind of fuel........
And that's exactly it.
Electricity is handy because (here in Manitoba at least) we can generate it hundreds and hundreds of miles away, send it down a wire, and then reconvert it into energy at this end to run something.
Beats the heck out of harvesting firewood... which used to cost next to nothing, cuz we got mountains of wood. So whereas it used to cost me a couple of hundred bucks for to heat my house all winter; now it costs me more than $2400..... in after tax dollars, and then they stack another 13% tax onto the $2400..... so in the end it costs me $3900 in wages or over 200 hours.
I used to cut, split, haul, and stack 12 cords in about 40 hours. So now, electricity costs me 5 times as much. I call that 20% efficient, lol.
But seriously, anytime you convert one form of energy to another, you lose a bunch of it. We'd be far better off to burn some form of fossil fuel,in a water boiler system. Fire is the real 100% efficient way to heat your house. Plus it's practically instant whole house heat, compared to electrical resistance heating.

What has that got to do with electric cars?
Think about it.
The only way electric cars are gonna make it, is if we buy them, which I will never ever do. If I have to, I'll buy a horse.
And the only way electric cars will come to market is, if some already fat cat can figure out a way to get rich off them...... and that leads straight to subsidized purchases so that a portion of the purchase comes straight out of tax dollars, whereby every taxpayer, whether or not he knows it, chips in for the neighbors new electricmobile..
That is just corruption in action.
Everybody, en mas, should just quit working and go on welfare. That'll fix 'em. I wonder how long it would take for the system to tank?

We are a captive market.
Every citizen with a SS number has a gross worth of X amount of dollars... per year; that the government is continuously figuring out how to cheat you out of. That's just what they do. We get just enough to subsist on, they get the rest. And it ain't because they need the money; rather they are proving the point that we are slaves to the fattest cats at the top of the heap. And what do those fat cats do with the cash? My guess is that they burn it to keep themselves warm in their fat-cat mansions, while they all fat-cat party, and fat-pat themselves on their fat-backs for figuring out new and sneakier ways to steal our futures.
Ok seriously, what are they doing with all the cash? When something like less than 1% of all the people in the world, own 95% or more, of the wealth of all the world; seriously, of what value is all that wealth? Whaddaya do with warehouse after warehouse of cash, jewels, and precious metals. What do you do with the all the businesses, and countries, and ciizens, that you own? And all the slaves you own?
Seriously, do you just forcechit on them and cackle with glee. Chit like electricity thru a wire to the meter in your house. Like gas guzzling cars that cost 100's of times more today than 50 years ago and still, at the very best, have only doubled in fuel economy. What's it all coming to?
What it's coming to is;
.................... a loaf of bread for a day's wages ...............

You might want to read Atlas Shrugged if you haven't done so already. You might also look up The Venetian Banking system. What you are describing is "Debt Slaves" and it is nothing new. The US Constitution Article 1 Section 8, describes the powers given to Congress. The power to coin money and regulate the value was the first time in the history of the world a sovereign nation had that power instead of The Banks. These Banks have been at work to destroy this power ever since the Constitution was ratified. In 1913, a Democrat President named Woodrow Wilson was instrumental in destroying our power to control our currency. The Federal Reserve Act, the 16th Amendment and the 17th Amendment were all passed that year and have been destroying our country ever since. We were set up with a Duty Tarriff system, an indirect tax. The 16th Amendment enslaved us to a Revenue Tariff system, a direct tax that steals your private property and keeps people poor. Take a look at a US paper bill, any denomination. It used to say: United States Note. Now it says Federal Reserve Note. The Federal Reserve isn't Federal, there is no Reserve and we pay The Banks who make up the "Fed" interest on our own currency. If interested, look up The Creature From Jekyll Island. It explains how the banks got together with members of Congress to get this Act passed. Too much history for you? That's a lot of the problem because too many people don't know our history and how this country was founded as a result of the corruption caused by The Banks in Europe. Hope that helps. Probably won't make anyone feel better.

And what did it gain the world? If that money was spent on curing cancer , There'd be a cure.
And Veterans living in poverty
Listen up, Lipshitz....First off, your sentence structure suggests that if the space exploration budget was spent on curing cancer, the Veterans would be living in poverty. Take a breather before you hit REPLY, look over what you wrote and you'll avoid looking silly in the future.

Quit your whining about Veterans and cancer. Cancer is a tricky bitch. You wipe it out in one area and it pops up somewhere else. It is truly a form of push down-pop up that may never get cured. Bacterial infections are another force of nature that is difficult to predict where they will develop.
Our Veterans are better treated today than they ever have been. Guess why?

What war have your people ever fought? It is the USA that you have as a neighbor so you will always benefit from being next to the world leader. Our Veterans are better treated today than they ever have been. Guess why?

Really? Canada fought in WWI. We were fighting in WWII for 27 months before the USA joined. Canada was in Korea, and backed the US efforts in Vietnam with medical help, munitions supplies and tens of thousands of soldiers. We had infantry, tanks and air force for 13 years in Afghanistan. I know a lot of Canadian families who have lost people in war.

Edited for accuracy.
Sorry....

And Veterans living in poverty

the world has gained plenty from this country
how about their economies to start?
including Canada
we have basically been giving out welfare to the entire world
for the past 50 years or more
the worlds economies depend on our welfare done with unfair trade
when the purse strings closed a few years ago
where is the recession occurring today???
(how about everywhere in the world but here!)
as a matter of fact
they give out more to the world then to the people that live here
like veterans. maybe that is why they are in poverty..

great post!
too many people don't know our history and even really what is behind
the events that occur today.
history is repeating itself before our eyes
they are doing the same thing today pushing for a one world government.

Banking Families are what is behind this pushing green load of crap on us
as a matter of fact the banking families are still doing the same , trying to destroy our constitution and our government.
most people don't know
they are behind who is pulling the strings
Until all the private federal banks (such as the US Federal Reserve Bank) around the world are abolished, the people of the world will be subject to the banking families control.
(ps I would elaborate more but I really don't want this moved to the pf!!)

Classy guy. First comment you have is name calling because a comment was made. Nice.
As for wars, Canada has acted in every major war in the last two centuries. We even kicked your *** when you tried to invade us in the war of 1812. We even burned down the White house. Canada is known as peacekeepers and are respected the world over, not disliked like Americans. Traveling in Europe with an American friend a few years ago, him with an American flag on his backpack and me the the Maple Leaf it was amazing how much respect I got compared to him. Had one server say " you don't have to wear the Maple leaf, we can tell the difference.

At the end of the war of 1812, the Canadians held most of New England and all of Michigan plus part of Ohio. Being polite as the saying goes about Canadians, we gave it all back. Interesting read if you have time.

Canada is indeed a good friend and ally and deserves all the recognition we can give her.

We should have let you keep those places... Or rather insisted you do.

I know how popular the topic of taxes is on this sight. But....every time you go to the pump and fill up your gas powered car, a portion of those dollars are tax dollars used for infrastructure by the gov't to build/maintain roads. Currently, drivers of EV's aren't paying their fair share to drive on the roads maintained through gas tax funds. If/when the fleet of cars transitions to electric, what new source of revenue will we be hit with to maintain the roads?

Not only the current taxes on the electric bill - but if go all electric you can bet they will find a new way to tax us for those cars being on the road. Right now it’s more trouble than it’s worth.

This has been brought up in other electric car threads. But the governments of various states, and countries, are aware of it and working hard to ensure that dollars are extracted from electric cars as well. For instance... https://www.greentechmedia.com/articles/read/13-states-now-charge-fees-for-electric-vehicles https://www.forbes.com/sites/jeffmc...ic-vehicles-defunct-the-gas-tax/#5dfa21433e0a https://www.theguardian.com/environ...-tax-on-road-usage-to-cover-lost-fuel-revenue

Also, some highways have toll booths placed with annoying frequency where more cash is required to continue driving to your destination. I haven't been to very many states, but I have seen this in Florida. Presumably, that money is used for highway budgets also, and is collected from both fuel and electric powered vehicles.
