A good buddy is looking for tips on how to re-adhere the vinyl padding that's come off on both doors on his '06 GT Stang convert. I'd have to guess this is a common problem with the car but said I'd see if anyone might have advice on our forum since he's not on any forums. He tried a 3M product spray adhesive that didn't work. I'll be doing more surfing the web on this; but thought somebody on our forum might have some experience with this dilemma so tossing this out. Thanks!

Pro-Form trim adhesive works for me. What was the problem with the 3M spray, did it not stick to the padding, or the door itself?

Reading up on Stangs from '05- '12 multiple dozens of posts I found where owners have said the panels come off. A **** arrangement I suppose where the adhesive breaks down. Several tried re-gluing only to have it fall off again. Others said you have to prep the surfaces well for re-glue by removing all the old deposits and frayed surfaces before re-gluing, that makes sense. Some others got new material to inlay. No recall by Phord despite all those who bitched and take it to a dealer for repair and they want to charge $600-700 to do it! Some upholstery shops charge less but often still couple hundred bucks. So I suggested to my buddy to try to do it right and see what happens...

Weldwood contact adhesive ….its what all upholsters use, including me.... clean the old glue off the best you can, I've used a wire brush on the door panel before, not on the vinyl.... use a cheap small paint brush, put a thin coat on both the vinyl and the door as its "contact adhesive" let it dry until you can touch it and it doesn't stick to your finger.... put it back in place, tuck the edges back in the groove.... that's the basics, I have done several of these as I do some upholstery... OR take it to someone who does upholstery but you can bet I'm NOT paying 700 or 800 bucks for something that takes 3 dollars worth of glue and 30 minutes to fix though !!!!!

The adhesive you recommend is one of them I found used among others people said they used so given your rec will tell my Phord bud to try Weldwood. Dealers are a super pricy - when I wanted some body work done on my wife's Intrigue some years ago, dealer wanted $3,200 to do it...found a local body shop that did it for $500. I had the car at the dealer for a head gasket replacement at 50k miles...my local mechanic friend said he couldn't do it needing to to go to a Cadillac dealer. Cost - $4,800! Glad it was still under X-warranty with only 30 days left on it. I had owned two Auroras liking them; but pricy upkeep. Was looking to maybe buy a Caddy; but ills with those motors...like head gaskets, made me decide to buy a different car.
