I am spraying Omni MBC base coat. Can I sand any runs I may have in the base coat, Without spraying another coat of base before my clear?

Base coat don't run very easily. But I would say no. If it is a metallic it would show. But I have never tried so just a hunch.

If its a non metallic color yes you can. If its is you can sand it but you will have to blend that spot in

Hopefully you plan to clear it tomorrow..... Or you'll be sanding & spraying more base anyway..

I know very little about B/C, but was told by a painter back when they came out with base/clear, they would spray the clear as the base was flashing. The goal was to slightly melt into the base with the clear.

With most systems you have a 24 hr window.... It's better to stay far to the short side....

Have you checked with the paint manufacturer?......I would get it straight from them versus a collage of opinions.....

Yes, you can sand out your runs after you let the base dry a little bit. Usually 20-30 minutes depending on temp and what reducer you have. But you’ll need to spray some more color over the area you’ve sanded or it will show after the clear coat. Like some of the others have said, don’t wait too long before clearcoat. It will peel if you do.

Note to self- not sure about other paint systems but using PPG for many years I have cleared the base from the same day to a week.

I was a paint rep years ago with sikkens. I had lots of guys like you getting into trouble because you didn’t read the instructions for the product completely! Read and understand the complete instructions for the products you are using before spraying. Including the products your spraying over. There is likely answers in the tech sheets to questions you don’t have yet. If you’re still unsure call the tech lines for the paint you have. Paint product has gone outrageous in price, don’t make it worse by wasting paint.

mmm always worked out for me know that's using DBC
I'm curious on how old your paint jobs are. I don't have much experience with base/clear but from what little I've had, the time to clear was withing the same time line soon after the base was applied. The stuff I used was Nason which is a lower grade but still a product of Dupont?

I've done it but always put another coat over it to blend it, base dries stupid fast. You can easily get away with just fanning a light coat over the affected area too but like others have said clear it as the manufacturer recommends which is pretty promptly.
