Weeding out the scammers

....but what do you think about making for sale ads available only to gold members.......

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how the fact that you (or anyone else) being a "GOLD MEMBER" automatically qualifies you as having more "integrity and honesty" than others here on the forum.

How about we just delete the whole God Damm For Sale section and everything related to it, then none of us would have to deal with any of this ****, and continually have to read about other peoples troubles with sellers because of their ignorance!
WEll, some people need parts for restorations. Not everyone lives in an A-100 van down by a river.

It doesn't.......What Gold does is my personal token of support for the forum that I am active at and part of my gratitude to Joey..To provide this wonderful updated forum of pure MOPAR entertainment......

It is a nominal fee and would be nice if more people would support this playground!

That is certainly your right to do so, but again that is only your opinion.

My opinion is that certain "Gold Members" here feel that they are somehow superior to non-gold on this forum and look down on them as the low-lifes of the Mopar world. In other words the "likely scammers" to watch out for.

As I originally stated, I don't see how "Gold" protects anyone from being scammed on a deal.

You sound like a guy with low self esteem if you believe this.
There will always be people that think that they are better than others. Having a GOLD membership has nothing to do with that.

Man that thought never crossed my. mind.....Anyone gold or not can be booted off this site......

Can you provide examples or state which members where this occurred? ....Or is it because those people who were Gold just happened to disagree with your postings?........

As I said, IT DOESNT....protect anyone

Yeah, I too was really shocked at that omission......

I think that things are just fine here.
all this is a bunch of crying for LAZY people
who won't do there homework before buying something!

I have been buying and selling for over 20 years on the web
some of the best deals I ever found were from people
with almost Zero web presence.
please don't make it any harder to find stuff
a person with only 1 post doesn't scare me at all
the thing is I asked enough questions before I got that
warm and fuzzy feeling to take a leap of faith as
both sides take a risk of sorts.
out of the hundreds of deals I have made the few times
I was disappointed, I blame myself for not asking enough
or specific enough questions.
I learned from it and became a better buyer for it.

you will never be able to protect people from themselves
either they are not educated or they are not
sharp enough to spot the red flags or even know what to ask to find them
or just too lazy to do their homework or they let their emotions
do their thinking

so there will be always someone who gets the short end of the stick
no matter how much they vet someone.

this site should not have to babysit sellers
people just need to use more common sense..

...and can I just add that Mods are not immune to being pulled aside by the Site Owner. :D

No-one here is 'above the law' so to speak, and no-one is better than someone else. There just seems to be more trust placed in people with a regular contributory history on the site....IMHO :)

On my previous post. Got to thinking that the admins should not have to do the vetting for people. I mean they have already established a great place to get information and parts. I dont think that the burden should be bared by the admins. My initial thoughts were intended to vet out scammers.
However, like I said people need to do their own vetting. So I scratch my previous statement. Its not like the Admins want all the responsibility to make sure deals go down correct. Then if something goes south who gets blamed? The admin that "vetted" the seller.

:nutkick::nutkick::poke::bs::rolleyes:
IMHO members should have to reveal their FULL name and phone number in their profile where they can keep it private only to be seen by Mods. That way they could sort of be vetted by the mods and keep the phone number private. Too many people just put up a State, country or USA.When it appears they have something to hide I keep my distance.

Assuming this forum runs on VBulletin 5 There are ways of doing restricted members and only allow postings to certain areas once they reach a post count. This thread on the vbulletin site give examples of how to achieve this. VBulletin This is not me telling you how to run your site.. I am just trying to offer up some helpful info. As I stated before I dont think the burden should be on the Admins. Sellers and Buyers should do their own research before they get in over their head.

It doesnt run on vBulletin ----

Why specifically do you feel that way? I'm a gold member. I believe this is the best Mopar site on the web and because of that, I support it and it happens to be the only one I do support. This is the one and only reason I'm a gold member, I could care less about a gold member banner under my name. I do it because I like the site and want to help keep it going!

it would likely keep actual scammers out - but as I said before, I have systems in place to deal with most real scammers. I think of a scammer as someone who for example, deliberately joins the site, posts an ad, takes the money with no intention of ever sending a part.

Being gold wouldn't solve the main problem which is people selling parts that the description isn't as accurate as it should be, and the part isn't in as good a condition as the buyer believed and/or the seller stated. Usually, this is somewhat subjective and open to interpretation. When your dealing with old and used parts, this is bound to happen.

As I have said before, real scammers are rare.

If not said already,,,if a name joins the site and his 1st post is in the clASSyads, didn't introduce himself I would be VERY hesitant to biz. Ther are way too many ali-asses here:popcorn2:

I think the neatest and best thing here on FBBO is PARTICIPATION and getting to know the folks here. Joel @hunt2elk just mailed me some hood scoop bezels. He went to the post office, paid for it and got them out. Guess I'd better pay him!! LOL :)

I have mailed out many times before getting paid. Never had a problem and I have sent to Hawaii and Puerto. Post office lost money on those "if it fits it ships":usflag:

Why specifically do you feel that way?

Bill, it was just a casual observation from reading "some" posts and then noticing a "gold" banner. Maybe just a coincidence? I've not done a statistical analysis on the subject.

You sound like a guy with low self esteem if you believe this.

Thanks so much Kern for the personality assessment. Your opinion is always highly regarded. (Hmmm.....maybe my theory has just been proven out?)

.....Can you provide examples or state which members where this occurred? ....

No,no,no. Don't really have specific names, just an observation over a long period of time. I wouldn't name names even if I had a list of them.

This guy is a perfect example of a member I highly respect. Mr. Cranium has a huge amount of experience and knowledge with B's, yet he rarely talks about it and when he does he is never boastful, yet he does try to help others with his knowledge when need be. I will admit, his usual approach to the forum is in jest, and his sense of humor is a bit off the wall but that just adds to his uniqueness. A really light-hearted down to earth type of guy I think.

So, seems I opened a can-o-worms here. Sorry to bother so many people with this. I'll just go back to being "very, very, quiet" and of course wallow in my low self-esteem.
