muffler solution for a triangulated rear

I am finishing the exhaust on my 69 Charger with a crate 6.4, tti headers and x-pipe.
So far, so good. I also installed a Ford 9 inch rear end with a Control Freaks triangulated rear coil suspension. Also so far, so good.
However, when it came to fitting mufflers, the inner control arms from the triangulated rear cut into the expected muffler space.
I purchased Dynomax super turbos 17744 which are 14" x 9" but they are still an inch or so
too wide/long and will hit the inner control arm.

Anyone have any other ideas that might work with this setup? I do want to go out the back and over the axle with 2.5" pipe.

Smaller muffler?
Cut and weld the corner of the aluminized muffler?

Straights and crimp the pipe about every 6". 1/8" deep crimps should work fine with 2 1/2" pipe. Don't worry about crimps slowing down the flow. Boundary layer air is slow even without crimps but what it will do it reduce the loudness.
 
If you went with a smaller muffler with fear of too much noise you can run resonator tail pipes.

When you say 'straight' are you referring to glasspacks or cherry bombs?
 
Probably no bolt on solution. Move the mufflers forward, but that will also mean dropping them down some which means less ground clearance. Get a bunch of mandrel bends and start snaking up around the rear end. I have adana 60 with rms 4 link and mini tubbed. Very tight but clears. Make sure you account for up travel of the housing/bars. I like wrapping the complete exhaust with header wrap too. Keeps allot of heat away from the floor and brake/fuel lines when space is tight. Shoot for 6 inches of ground clearance, 5 at minimum. Also ask controll freaks to send pics of cars they have done. Don’t reinvent the wheel if you don’t have to.
 
Thanks for the ideas, I wasn't aware of the straight crimped pipes. I'm waiting to hear back from Control Freaks for more ideas.
 
I would try a welded, chambered type muffler, so it can be carved up and rewelded if neccessary, and plan on a resonator to control tone and noise volume
 
I have decided to try custom fabbed mufflers from Spin Tech.
 
A friend of mine tried a set of 3.5" spintechs with an x-pipe, on his 10 second n/a small block fairlane. Interesting sound, different from the rest. I liked it. VERY angry sound, but not loud, for its size.
 
My brother ran the factory chambered exhaust (post #6) on his big block 69 Camaro with full tail pipes.Sound was LOUD but very cool and unique.Wow, I just realized that was 50 years ago !
 
@Darter6, what state were you in? I've lived in california most of my life, and I don't know that I ever heard the chambered pipes. I may have, but didn't know it. Were they legal and available in cali?
 
California I would say No. I was a youngin' growing up in Pennsylvania at the time.
