hello all,

doing a 727 to tko500 project on my 1966 Coronet 500 with a 440cu. at the point of indexing the bellhousing-to-crank; measuring the total indicated runout.

when looking at the engine from the front of the car - do i hook up the 1.25” socket on the harmonic and turn clockwise or counter to spin the crank?

Happy Thanksgiving!

thanks,

watermelon

Looking at it....clockwise so that the bolt doesn't come loose. If you're just indexing the bell housing, it really doesn't matter just so long as you go in the same direction but even that might not matter....but I like to go in the same direction. And Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

well I hope your name on a new bell housing will suffice

still dialing in...I can’t do math past 9am

ya....the best forum in eternity

checking the trans mounting flange for true to the flywheel or for trans centerline? pic is a little vague, wondered if you could post a couple more pics. of your indicator setup!
My son just made a bell to adapt a zf to a 440 had the car all assembled and driving it before I had a chance to check on his work, now the input shaft seal is leaking[ which may have been a previous condition [used tranny} but i'd like to double check the run out before it goes back in

apologies for the late reply

setup pics. Starret 0.001” dial and a stand off Amazon
