For those who have done it what is the best driveshaft option?? Order new, shorten and rebalance original or other. Also is the original taper at the rear of the original driveshafts for exhaust clearance??

What’s it going into? I had a clearance issue with my 67 Charger. I was going to push the axle back 1” for bigger tires, which interfered with the gas tank, street car. So don’t pick anything until you have measured it at ride height while I stalled. I decided not to go that way (at least for now) due to a cascade of issues. I think you can get a drive shaft made for around $300 US ($400 here in Canada).

I’m doing the same thing now (68 coronet).
I plan on calling Cass (Dr.Diff) and ordering a new shaft from him. He will put whatever yoke and universal joints you want on / in it. I’m going with 1350 universal joints.

I bought my last 3 from Cass. He wants the car fully assembled so as to get the exact length. They come directly from Strange. Nice quality pieces.

I took my driveshaft to a machine shop and had them shorten it by 1 1/10". Worked just fine.

Had mine shortened and balanced for $75 If I remember it was 1.5 inches shorter. If your racing I would think a larger diameter would be best
