Anyone know of anyone looking for a built 383? Motor is being replaced in my car because I wanted mopower lol so I am gonna have a built 383 motor for sale. I do not know much about the motor accept it has a racing cam, forged pistons and aluminum heads. It has been sitting for quite some time so will need gone through but the seller (a friend of mine) said it was a good motor and he had about 7k in it

If you do intend to sell it, the moderators here may encourage you to instead, place a legit ad in the FOR SALE section of the forum. Good luck to you.

I'd love to give you an accurate number but it is a huge variable.

Without receipts, knowing the builder, knowing the exact parts, it may be a great runner but it is an unknown. Maybe if a prospective buyer drove the car with the engine, the performance could help sell it. The heads could be ported...that would help. The cam could be a roller, that would as well. Without specifics, I'd say around $2500 but that is a wild guess on the safe side.

Right on brother I do know the heads are ported not sure if it is a roller cam or not. Pretty sure the shop doing the motor swap wants the motor just don't know what to ask for it. They know the car, the motor and the builder

So, first its YOUR motor out of YOUR car. Then its being sold by someone else, oh, a FRIEND of yours. WHICH IS IT? Can't be both.

Something smells here? :bs_flag:

it makes sense.
he bought the car from a friend, with the 383 and they are putting in a 440.

now,as far as what a rebuilt 383 thats been Used is worth.
good luck getting Anywheres near that 7k figure
because you can buy a rebuilt 383 for around 2 grand Tops if you shop carefully.
i actually saw one go for 1200 about 3 weeks ago and that was a Fresh rebuild/0 miles.

plus, whos gonna spend that kind of money on a 383 when they could have a 440?
the question id ask about the 383 is does it have iron heads or alum.

It was stated it had ported aluminum heads. Now if I only knew what a 383 motor looked like. But that's a different debate all together.

Without knowing the engine builder, having lots of receipt's for parts and a written guarantee it actually contained those parts maybe a few hundred dollars max.

My 383 rebuilt by a quality shop not some production mill, was line bored, bored 30 over, balanced, rods done, crank cut, forged pistons, new valve train hardened exhaust seats, new valves and all other quality parts, cost more than 2 grand, just for the record.

383s are good engines. Tough as a nail.

If it has no receipts ( Who doesn't keep receipts for their hard earned money?) you're in for a battle to get what he "says" it's worth.

expect 10 cents on a dollar for a unknown rebuild
so I would say 700 bucks
