Noticed a 'new' savings account was added to my existing savings (nothing really in that one) and checking account with 78k in it and I had full access to it! After a little bit of digging, I recognized the account number as belonging to my X. Kinda wonder if that's all she has left as she never was any good with money. Did the right thing (?) though and called the credit union to let them know. Man, the urge to take it and close out the whole account was really workin on me lol

Temptation is nothing more than a test of your integrity and resolve, besides Karma is a real.....
You should be proud of yourself by taking the high road, beers on me

 you are a good man cranky, thank you for not doing it, temptation is a hot woman, i know you don't have a nice background with your ex, but this prove you are the better man, a few years ago I see one of my workers coming and going to his van trying to hide a coat, turns out that in the coat was a $ 2,500 usd, £ 2000 British pounds and 50,000 pesos, call the owner and gave him his money behind the counter, after counting the money he say there was more, I told him, that's what I found, he said, in your conscience, and I say in yours l, I still have pleasant nights of sleep, I need that money mmmm maybe yes maybe no but it wasn't my money, good for you:thumbsup:

78K ain't too bad to have.

"That could parlay into a fortune for you!"

Anybody even remember Wise Guys (1986)?? Danny Devito and Joe Piscopo

I take it your name was on the account.
It would have been fun to open an escrow account and transfer the money to it and then wait....

maybe it was $$$, she was stealing or hidden from you :carrot:
socked away, hidden for a future rainy day, when she left you :blah:

how could she forget she had $78k :screwy:

Karma has a way of bighting you in the *** :drinks:
good luck

I think the credit union were the ones that made a mistake....computer glitch maybe? And it would be a total surprise if she socked away that kind of money. She didn't work all that much plus money burned a hole in her pocket. I did the bills because she would always pay stuff late and so I stopped all that crap. There was no way to save when she was in charge of the money and that was pretty early on in our marriage. Even had a 'car account' to keep things separate from money made from the shop or from a flip but yet, a large majority of that went into the household anyways.

^^^^^^ Dude, I hear ya. My ex-wife cleaned out the bank accounts and hid away all the cash she could . It was hard at first but I'm livin' life now and she is still miserable .....That was 20 years ago for me. Fogetabout it ! You did the right thing !

my ex got a loan from household finance while going thru divorce to a tune of 25k forging my signature, found out about it while running a credit check for ames tools, at the end I had to write her a check when she said where's the rest I handed a receipt paid in full to household finance, talk about lucky would have never got that back out of her. bitch! You did the right thing, what comes around, goes around.

So, didn't you do any defective work to find out the origins of the loot?
I would at least want to know where a lump of cash came from first!
I'm not saying I wouldn't do anything different than you did, but just like
in the Dirty Harry Movie, "I Got's to know".

She got the money and her 18 year old Durango and I got the house, shop full of tools and my vehicles. Imo, the best part is that she's GONE! :D She got some furniture and some yard tools....sure miss the battery operated leaf blower. It was perfect for the shop lol

Maybe 78K was cheap to let her know she messed up losing you?

Having a couple buddies that went through ugly divorces and hearing some from you guys on what you endured, I count my blessings. Wife and I went through some turbulent times and the total blame was mine. I was a dip ****, longer story; but I married a gal that is smarter than me. Tried to help a close bud who had a POS spouse draining the savings, maxing the cards, and when he left the house about a year before the big D, house he still owned, she fucked that up to foreclosure. He would send her money to pay the mortgage and she pissed it away on herself. He made the mistake of keeping some trust in her...huge error; but he was in some sort of shock as he loved her dearly thinking she would have some degree of ethics and maybe reunite. Nada! The house was trashed by her and her kids (not his, she was married before). Dumbfounded by what people can do to each other while he bent over backwards for the rancid bitch. Nice story? Each of the guys I'm referencing remarried and all are happy as can be today with their new spouses 20 + years later.

LOL!! Yup. Both of our names USED to be on 'her' account that she had before we got married in 86 but I separated from it and now have my own account number. Years ago I opened up a 'car account' that was separate from the household account and even got a credit card with my name as primary and glad that was done. Anyways, when I went into my account, I noticed that another savings account had been added and I had full control over it....78k. Had a WTH (what the hay :D) moment until digging into it a bit deeper and saw the account number and recognized it as being our old account. Don't know what she's doing moving that much out of her IRA and really don't care.....

Place a '1' in front of that 7.....and then add a bit more. That's why I mentioned in my first post that I hope that's not what's left of her 'share'. If it is, that means she has burned through over 100k in a little over 2 years.

I would have consulted my lawyer and let him handle the situation.

We had joint accounts and during the divorce she wrote bad checks all over town. I had a hard time even opening up a new checking account for myself. Had to get the bank and other creditors to see who signed the checks. She took her name off of all of her credit cards and tried to leave me with the bill. I again asked each credit card company to look at who signed for the purchases and take my name off the cards and close the accounts. What a fkn mess!

Get your name off of everything! It could have been the other way around with that account being added to yours.
