What Is VIN Swapping? Recreating a Wrecked Road Runner

Vin tampering is a Federal offense.

I have never had a 68-70 B body post car, so I don't know about the B pillar, bolt in or not. I think the guy said they left the Satellite VIN tag in place. There is clearly no deception going on there. If they are not trying to pass the car off as original I don't see a problem.
Is my Superbird any less real, by me replacing the trunk gutters and welding in the partial VIN in the new piece. I think not. Every other date code and VIN number is correct all the way down to the original carburetor tag. The partial VIN is original, the trunk gutter is not.
Another example is my 68 Hemi Dart. The original car was rolled multiple times in a street race. All the drivetrain, suspension, interior were removed and placed on another body. The new body VIN # is on the dash. Every part on that body came from the original car except for the hood and that came from another real LO23 car. I don't call it a clone, I call it rebodied and the full story is on the poster that I display with the car.

Lol....what’s the difference? Both cars used in that article had different body number on the core and trunk rail...

So if he actually moved the RR vin to the Sat that’s fraud, period! So at least he left the Sat info....I don’t have ap problem with that...

I agree with Frieberger, the water is getting muddier. What if they cut the Road Runner at the A pillars, and grafted the Satellite clip onto it at the A pillars, and the trans tunnel seam, would this have been an acceptable way to save the Road Runner in the current times? They pieced cars back together like that back in the day on a regular basis. I have seen a few over the years. If a guy replaces every part on a rusty 68 Road Runner, except the front clip and roof structure with new repro sheetmetal is it really any different?

I found it interesting that he said it was a Satellite hardtop RM23 which is actually a Road Runner hardtop. A Satellite hardtop would have been RH23. So what did they actually start with and had the VIN already been swapped? Or was it just a misprint?

yawn
nothing new to see here
where is the horse beating picture when you need it?

Do you think anybody really cares ? Not me!!

I am still searching for a good Superbird body to swap my slant six Belvedere VIN tag on to. It was rusted out but I saved the ID stamps. I have searched for another six cylinder body to use but I can't find any so this must be a super collectable car. I see Superbirds all over so apparently anyone can afford them. The color is not important but I would like a column shift three speed.

IMO unless I missed something from reading quickly all they did was buy a wrecked Road Runner for parts and put everything they could on the Satellite... It doesn't say he swapped the Vin from the wrecked Road Runner so he just made the Satellite look like a Road Runner which has been done for years...

All I can say is try it and some day some one some where is not going to like it.

Can only go by what the article says, which is: Meanwhile, know this: We left the Satellite VIN in place.
