If you are a serious racer and want to get the most out of your combo.....Get one!
More sensors the better.
Best thing I ever bought.

If you dont have one and think its expensive, save up because it will save your motor.
 
If you have fuel pressure or oil pressure issues, you can view the whole run and see where the problem started.
Voltage down the track.

Whats really good about a data logger is that you find out why your car doesn't leave good. Or why you are fighting converter issues. I've seen guys scratching their heads, with or without hair, not knowing what the AF ratio is. Guys shooting ducks down track or cars laying over at the big end. A data logger will take the guess work out of it and reduce the risk of breaking something.

I would assume that running your car at 1 test n tune per year would also save your engine ?
 
Wiring my car up from scratch over the winter. I have the Racepak IQ3 street dash. Monitoring 25 sensors once done. Oil pressure, oil temp, water temp, GPS for speedo, drive shaft speed, fuel pressure 1 for motor, fuel pressure 2 for NOS stage 1, fuel pressure 3 for NOS stage 2, NOS pressure 1, NOS pressure 2, bottle pressure 1, bottle pressure 2, engine/pan vacuum, O2 left, O2 right, all 8 EGT's, trans temp, trans pressure to start. I quit adding up costs......I couldn't run any gauges within my stock dash panel due to the knee bar of the cage running where gages would go so I made this mount to my tubular steering column.

I guess junkyard Imperial motors wouldn't qualify for owning a datalogger.
Probably cheaper to just blow them up year after year.
 
No data logger is gonna save an engine if oil pressure goes away. You’ll need EFI for that with programmable safeguards.

We tune with a stick, stone, and an axe. That being said index racing we use; video, Performaire weather station, and Crew Chief pro software. Running dead on is key for us. It's worked pretty well. 7 years; 624 passes total. 99 events, 4 events rained out while we still in. Went to 38 semis, of those 18 finals, won 16.

Congrats! I raced like that in the late 90’s/early 2000’s, by 2004, it was more like a job than it was fun. I admire guys like you that make it look easy but that kind of racing isn’t for me anymore.

Yes data loggers can shut down from low coolant, oil pressure and temp also high temp. This can be programmed into the data logger. You can watch your fan clutch when it's on and how long these things can do whatever you want. You just have to pay for it.
