Lookie what $5000 buys you....

I dragged down the frame rails and torsion bar crossmember I saved from a '68 Satellite.

I then realized that the RH rail must have had a stubborn K member bolt....I don't remember cutting it off.

I soaked it in PB blaster:

But even after I drilled through it, I started thinking that it might come out easier if I welded another fat bolt on it and cranked it out.
Anyone else have an idea on how to extract this thing?
Weld a flat washer to the broken bolt first then weld a nut onto the washer

Nice job by the way!
I picked up a 70 340 4 speed Duster that I’m planning to do the same fix on.
It was a hard enough hit that I need to replace the floor pan, possibly the torsion crossmember too as it pushed the floor up a bit. Door pillar may be tweaked a bit as well.

love this stuff...... much cheaper than aerosol without the mist........ let it dry...... it's like hot sauce, I brush that **** on everything........ the pic looks like I brushed it over primer.......... I obviously ripped the primer off first :)

I will have to check that out. I'm going to replace the center of the trunk floor and may replicate the spotwelds with proper plug welds.

The fender aprons are welded up. I plug welded through the floor pan to the rails too.
I sprayed the welds with the weld through primer since I don't plan to use this stuff again. Might as well use it up here.

It is probably redundant but I added a few more tack welds along the edge along with plug welding.
Next up, I'll hang the fenders, hood and front bumper & grille assembly. I also hope to get the front suspension back together so I can put it back on it's tires. I want to put the car on the lift so I can weld the rails to the crossmember while standing, not laying on my side.

Ta-DA !!!

Almost all the welding is done. The suspension and steering are back in. Check out the conditions of the splines on this one:

The years of sitting uncovered ate away at the splines. I will have to use another steering box once the car is made roadworthy.

Torsion bars are in but with no boots. All of this stuff will get pulled apart later to be done right. For now I want to be able to roll and steer it.

I hoped to get the front body panels on today but I had to do other things here at home. Maybe this week?

Thanks for following along. I'm having some fun here!

Looks awesome. I have never done this before, but it does look quite easy. Please do correct me if I'm wrong, but I reckon even I could do that. :)

What really helped is having an unmolested front stub in complete form. If I had to piece it together as I had originally planned, it would have taken longer and I may have made more mistakes.

Good effort on your part, good parts & good advice... You knocked it out of the park...

It may be a waste of time but I decided to see if I can repair this valance:

It was corkscrewed and trying to twist it back seemed to cause distortion to the good side....SO I cut it.

At that point is was easier to hammer away and start to rough it back into shape.

Still a long way to go but I think I might be able to actually save it.

This was my first time too.
I had some great advice though. Sometimes a project fights you at every move and you wonder why. This was the exact opposite of that. A level garage floor, a straight and complete replacement front stub, some careful measuring, a car that was structurally solid from the firewall back and it went together nicely.

Come on, Kern. Need some updates. I am hooked.

KD went on a bizarre rant in another thread , and no one has seen or heard from him since! I think the midgets got him!
