Greatest Fears of Owning a Classic Car

all the rest of the low performance drivers :poke:
in high performance cars, usually driving over their heads
or too fast, for the conditions

no real fears, really
other than deer darting out
the rest of the typical crap, I'm usually ready for
use to defensive driving, even up here in the sticks

it's the unexpected **** that'll get ya

1-Too poor to keep them. In other words, financial catastrophe requiring to sell.
2-Too old/sick to drive them.

Thieves stealing stuff off of them, or just stealing the whole car. More so at shows and cruises than at home too, I might add.

Other drivers.

Driving along with the flow of traffic (55-60) and leaving a good 2 car lengths between me and the car in front of me. Hey, the brakes are 50-60 year old designs (drum/drum) and I know I can't stop on a dime so using a little common sense. Then the 1 1/2 car sized SUV decides to pass you because they are in a hurry and your 2 car lengths is now a 1/2 car length and your pressing hard on the brake pedal to slow down because they realize they are too close to the car in front of them and they are hard on the brake pedal also.

Reminds me of a story. When we put the '69 Charger away in the barn we cover it with old quilts and bedspreads, not just car covers. One of the big Newfoundlands mistook the hood of the car as a bed and had no trouble jumping up onto it. They both slid off and no damage was done.

While shoveling snow on the driveway about 10 days ago the Newfs were out playing in the snow. I guess one thought we were going somewhere so he backed up and jumped into the closed bed of the pickup full of snow. I didn't think a dog that big could jump that high.

Rust scares me.

Yep I don't show anymore. My son-in-law took his 70 Camaro to a show. A lady in a motorized wheel chair went all the way down the side of it with the chair. Needless to say they also did not have the money for a repair. So with 500 deductible there was no getting it fixed except out of pocket. I have seen too much of this and these shows don't support any security and charge you to show. But cant have a show with out our cars. My last show was 5 to 6 years ago.

Posted this before but will again. Took my Satellite convertible out first time in 9 years in 2015. We were on curvy 2 lane road where you had to pay attention to on coming cars to make room. Driver was a foot over the line and wanting more. Do I let him side swipe me or hit a telephone pole or a fire hydrant. Heard my daughter suck in a breath, guy jerked his SUV into his lane at the last second.

This is why I paid a fortune to have Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes put on my classics. They now stop just as good as modern cars, removing a lot of worry. Cost to rechrome/repaint any of the bumpers on my cars would be 2-3 grand, and that's assuming no other damage to fix.

I am always a defensive driver when in my classics. If someone is too close to me from behind I will continue to hit the brakes making them back off some. Always looking around for others to help avoid incidents. My kids and buddies always make fun of me because I am forever checking my gauges when in an older car also, just in case.
