Hello everyone! I have been here for awhile now. But I could not get in from my old sign on! I tried everything! My son and I are restoring a 66 Charger for him. I just repainted and rebuilt the steering column. And replaced the turn signal switch. This car was partially torn down when we bought it. So I am not sure how the turn signal auto cancels itself ?? Am I missing a part? Between the steering wheel and the switch? Every schematic I have looked at online shows me nothing also the book I have is no help! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

On my '70 there is a pin on the steering wheel. Or I least I think there is.

Welcome from NY to the 1st Gen Charger club.

These are the cancellation fingers on the switch...

This is the pin on the back of the steering wheel that makes contact with them. It's like a heavy spring clip...

Thank you for any help and welcomes! I believe the 66 and maybe the 67 Chargers are setup differently than the 70s models? I would greatly appreciate a photo with just the steering wheel removed and the bottom of a steering wheel photo if possible. Thanks again for any help!

Thank you so much! I see the clip you show in the photo on our steering wheel. But mine appears to not touch the ears at all? With it turned right or left of the turn signal. The steering shaft just spins. Maybe the steering wheel is not going all the way down on the steering shaft? Someone had beat on it with a hammer. I had to do a lot of grinding on it and rethread it for the steering wheel hold down nut!! Did I buy the wrong replacement turn signal switch?

It doesn't touch until you turn the lever to the right or left. Then it catches it on the way back.

I can see what you are showing me, but it appears ours does not touch those ears for some reason, clicked in either direction? Like the ears for it to click against are way too short? Ours was all broken so I’m not sure what it should look like from the factory?

I have one more question. At the very bottom of the shaft tube do they have a bearing of some sort? The only thing I found and purchased was a rubber seal with plastic washers built into it that the shaft goes through.

Not sure exactly what your '66 switch should look like. Double check the part number. There shouldn't be much of a gap between the column and wheel.

The rubber seal with the plastic center is all that's used.

I have a 66 plymouth belle column torn down to that point I will get you a picture of the turn signal cam.

Thank you so much for the great information it will help tremendously!!! My son loves this car but it has fought me every step so far! The previous owner did horrible repairs to this poor car! And took things apart with out saving the parts. The price of parts used or new are just crazy!!! But it will be very worth it when we are done! Thanks again!!!

A friend of mine came over and looked at our engine numbers. He advised we have a 1970 383 in our 1966 Charger we purchased. I have problems timing the engine. I have a Snap On timing light that you can dial to the desired degree. I set it at 12.5 degrees. With vacuum advance hose removed. It is an electronic distributor that came with the car.
The question is should the timing mark on the balancer line up with the hole in the timing marker? Or one of the ATC marker lines? What is the hole in the marker. Is it TDC? Or the mark above the hole?
Next issue, in most photos I see the vacuum advance appears to be pointed almost directly at the number one cylinder. To get our engine to run the best I must turn the distributor almost as far as it will go towards the radiator. Is it possibly 180 degrees out? It was installed buy the previous owner. I would greatly appreciate any help on these items!!!
