Has anyone made heat shields for poly loc motor mounts? Looking for ideas. Mine have softened/melted from heat/deformed. They were replaced free of charge but don't want to have to replace again, not fun. It is a 383 with hooker super comp headers. 1 7/8

Just within the last week I have seen ads for two different brands of motor mount insulator heat shields. I think DE was one brand.

Thanks Mike I will try and research

I've gone through this multiple times, heat shields, free replacement mounts, etc.

Nothing worked. I had the headers they recommended and they were coated in black, as preferred apparently.

My opinion, poly locs are a poor design.
The two metal sides of the mount do not touch inside the poly. Imagine no poly at all you could only pull them apart by sliding.

Nice for forces that want to pull the mount apart, however the engine actually twists, or turns, slightly, and the mounts 'sliding' direction is vertical, not horizontal.

This causes the engine to sag on the right side, at first, at least in my case, and easily move on the left side, usually up during driving distorting the poly.

I don't know why others do not experience this issue. I have posted a number of times with pics.
Maybe due to the fact that my poly mounts are in an a-body with a tunnel ram, and when the right mount fails it is very noticeable as the engine hits the hood.

However, the a-body right mount is shared by many models, but the left mount is on the front of the engine, far from the header, and has the same issue.

The only real solution was to drill right through the mounts, insert a bolt with a lock washer, and do not tighten all the way.

Thank you Matthon for your reply, I actually did see one of your posts. Being that the new motor mounts are now installed and it took me a good part of the day, I figured I should try something to preserve them. This is actually my third set over 20 years. I also wonder why more people aren't having this problem.. my headers are ceramic coated also and do not seem very close to the motor mounts. I figured they would have changed the polyethylene compound by now to be more heat resistant but they have not. I have to assume it can't be done or they would have done it?

After destroying 2 sets of the poly's in the same manner, I got the Mity-Mounts from Mancini and have been problem free ever since. Same story, ceramic TTi's, deforming in a "slip" that shifts one high and one low leaving the motor sitting crooked.

Did you try any kind of heat shield. I am wondering if it is a waste of time?

No. It wasn't worth the effort when the factory rubber never had that problem

Heat shield = waste of time.
My theory on why more aren't having this problem, they don't realize it.

I've heard good things on the mity mounts.

Fyi, at one point I bought brand new mounts, the brackets and factory rubber.
The engine moved so much it bent the front bracket, and that was just mild driving, no burnouts, etc.

How much go do you have

647HP/687 lb.ft. Poly's died, Mity-Mounts - so far so good.
Nice I am much more stock will wait till these go and then do the Mity Mounts. Hopefully I'll get a few years out of them don't put many miles on my car thanks for your help

Used a solid mount on the driver's side and a stock mount on the passenger side and trans mount.....but that was years ago and 'only' had around 550 horse lol

Are they made for b body big block

Not to my knowledge. I thought maybe but after looking at Schumacher's' site only the poly locks were shown. I did receive spool motor mounts with the Alterkation kit I purchased and I can see a need for stock replacement spool type mounts if the engineering can be worked out. (ATTENTION: Bill Reilly)
