I assume you have already given the plate information and details to your insurance agent. Also, your agent could run a report like this... probably for free.
Of course, let your agent do all of the leg-work and making telephone calls. That is one of their jobs...make/pressure the other insurance company pay up...your insurance company doesn't want to spend their own money.

Had a Scout hit and run, only thing was, all the neighbors came out as he rocked his car to get out from under. He told the cops he was hit and run, but they had already gotten the report.
He gave the cops a fake address, but enough was factual, so I tracked him down. I knocked on the door and a nice lady came out. "I'm here about the hit and run" "Oh, thank God" she says, "I didn't know how we could have afforded to fix the car".
Um, I was the one who got hit and my car was parked in front of my house.
With that, a kid standing there holding his baby said: "I'm leaving before Dad gets home".
It twisted the frame. Too bad, it was a nice rig. Had a built 392 that ran very well. A 1978, one of the years IH took their class in the Baja 1000. 2 1/2 hours ahead of second place, a CJ7.

Sadly, the guy in the ramp truck could just turn around and say that she wasn't paying attention and rear ended him & he didn't feel anything. It would be a case of he said/she said & without video footage or a witness, most likely, she would loose.

Seems to be more "no win" situations for these things.
Last month my 17 year old son's pickup got T-Boned and totaled. Police assured him it wasn't his fault, nothing would go on his record, etc... but the other driver doesn't have insurance. Filed with our insurance (full coverage) but found out he was 40% at fault for just being on the road. He will not be able to replace what he had with the settlement he got. Luckily he did not owe any money on the pickup.

Just last week my 2018 Ram Rebel was parked in a mall parking lot. I always park far away from other cars because I've had too many doors open and hit my vehicles. Unfortunately this time I didn't. Someone hit my drivers door leaving it dented and scratched. My last new truck same thing happened in the first couple months of being new.
