I pull up and get out
the guy gets in and calls me back over quickly and asks
which of the 3 pedals is the brake?
He had no clue how to drive a stick!
took him 5 min to go find someone who could.
it is unreal how inept people are these days...

The only stick this generation knows how to operate is the joystick on their Xbox!

I feel that some of this vintage stuff should be exempt from inspections. They don't know how to drive them or even what to look at for safety anyway. Drum brakes most stare at in confusion and anything else they are clueless. NYS likes it because they get their $10 for a "safety" inspection on my old jalopies, but its a bit ridiculous for them to even look at this old iron anymore. They are clueless.

In NJ, cars over 25 years old are exempt from inspection.

You could always move up here to Canuckville, my Bee was last safetied in 1986 when my Father died and it was transferred to me and the Bird when I bought it in 1990 !

the Car is a '05 so its not that old
I was just surprised that the guy who Inspects your Car
has no idea how to drive a Car..
you would think it would be a requirement/skill to getting the job?? lol

only if they are plated Historic .. then you limit use

only certain older cars are exempt
I have a inspection exemption letter for '90 with a obd 1 system they won't test any more
the equipment costs too much to maintain .
they will still test a 95 with a obd2 system

My 70 Satty has regular plates on them, don't need inspection. It's the age of the car that determines inspection requirement. Also, I believe, vehicles over a certain GVW don't need inspection either. Not 100% sure on that.

I got the red x
maybe it changed but that is how I understood it
wonder why they sent me a specific letter that I don't need..

that weight limit is high
I know commercial plated vans have to be inspected every year
and they inspect everything , not just the emissions

What year cars are exempt from inspection in NJ?
Exempted Vehicles
The following vehicles are exempt from inspection requirements (N.J.A.C. 13:20-7.2): Gasoline powered vehicles registered passenger, model year 1995 & older with a GVWR 8,500 pounds or less. Gasoline powered vehicles registered passenger, model year 2007 & older with a GVWR 8,501 to 14,000 pounds.

My delivery van is registered commercial and have to inspect annually.

these days they really don't look for inspection stickers
unless they pull you over for something else.
I know too many people who have ignored it for years and I'm amazed they
get away with it.

At least he didn't try. When I took one of my cars in this summer to get emissions test, they were looking at the car for about 5 minutes when an older guy came over and said, " we cant test your car because the clutch is bad". I said "what are you talking about", and he answered "we smell burning clutch material coming from your car". I said, 'no you don't, it smelled like that before they pulled my car into the bay".

So, they guy leaves and another 5 minutes goes buy and the manager comes out and pulls this young kid out of the car in the bay next to me and proceeds to finish testing the car that was causing the smell. I never found out how much damage he did to the clutch on that car, but judging by the smell, it was pretty roasted.

I disagree, if he played xbox he would use this for driving games and know how to drive a stick

It's not a 25 year cutoff
Where does it say that?
It's a obd1 and obd2 cutoff
Due to the reason I said above
They will still be inspecting the 95
In the coming years
It is not 25 year exempt from inspection
