Hi
I’m just throwing out feelers for finished big blocks for sale. I’m looking at a lot to have one built. Figured I’d ask here first and see what’s out there.
440s., strokers, etc. thanks. Erik.

Too bad you’re not near Michigan, I would suggest you take that 440 of yours to Darryl at Auto Parts Machine Shop in Ann Arbor. He would be able to go through the entire thing and give you a real time assessment of what’s going on in there. He would also reverse any bad work and get it back to a useable piece, and for a reasonable price.

Blocks been bored 40 over. It’s done. Thank you though.

i got a 434ci 383 stroker that is at the machine shop getting freshened up i may part with

I have a fresh pump gas 451 under the bench that was built by a fellow in Bend (Cab Burge) and dyno'd in Phoenix, OR at Lindvig Machine this summer. 5k cash in person

All it needs is an 850 DP and off you go. I'm about 4 hours South of Portland. PM me if you are interested.

.040 is not necessarily "done". What if it has thick cylinder walls? A sonic test would tell you for sure. I've read of several 440s that were .060 over. People also sleeve cylinders on heavily overbored or damaged blocks. Ever heard of that?
I understand that you are frustrated but it seems that you are acting on emotion here without thinking things through fully.

.040 over is nowhere near done i got a .080 over 440 in my car and its been fine and runs mid 11s and have never had a problem.

oldkimmer has a stroker (kit) that would get you started.

No sir. I am going by what my new reputable builder states. He won’t push a motor past 30 over.

$5500.00 all in on this build...FYI

yeah 7200 for a short block is nuts on a 440
Just called Hughes and explained the build he’s proposing. They said he’s right in the ball park on the cost. I will post exactly what he emailed me and list it out for you guys to pick apart.

Like I mentioned in another thread....SONIC test the block and see how much meat is on the walls. Heck, any block should be sonic tested before boring. The thought about not boring any block past .040 is asinine and is way beyond 'old school' for any machinist that's worth his salt!! It's obvious your machinist is stubborn way past his prime as a machinist. Tell him that comes from a machinist with over 30 years of experience! Find another builder that isn't going to cost you more needless money.....

.040 is done? Some blocks .060 have more meat left then one at .030 over.

Sell it...someone won't be afraid of it.
