100 Octane Coming Soon

A long time ago an aviation nut told me that Avgas has additives in it that prevents it from
burning at a quick rate like racing gas. It's not designed to burn in an engine that runs faster
than 5000RPM. He told my Buddy and I to keep using leaded racing fuel. He had no reason to
lie to us as we could buy Avgas as much as we wanted. He just tried to Esplain it to us Dummies!
Anybody know 'bout dat?
 
Avgas is formulated for slow turning, constant rpm, big bore, aircooled, low compression engines.
 
High octane without alcohol doesn't fit the Washington agenda. Even if its cleaner burning.
 
I have no use for Race gas or AV gas anymore...since my 408 runs on unleaded...we get plenty here at the necessary octane rating. I used up the last of my Race gas for my two-stroke lawnmower. No burnt-outs, but I was able to cut my lawn faster which a much more bearable smell. :)
 
It was interesting and surprising to me that when I was in the States a few months ago, I noticed that 91 Octane was considered the good stuff. It was down as low as 87 for the standard. Here in good old kiwi land, we have 91 as our standard unleaded and 95 as our premium gas.
 
That is because gasoline is rated differently. Your 95 is equal to our 91-92.

I was told the same when rating our old octanes to new. Still don't believe it. I can remember when 118 could be bought at the pump and still not considered racing fuel.
