Dash frame installation

Hey guys, Does anyone have any tips or recommendations for the best way to hook up and install a new restored dash frame? Any insightful information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Install the complete wiper system, speedometer cable, park brake system, firewall insulation, heater box and defrost ducts first.

Have the dash completely assembled, cluster, wiring harness, radio, speaker, heater controls & cable, glove box, etc. Have the left ac duct and supply tube already in the dash, have the center floor duct bolted on the heater box, you don’t want to have to do this later. What do you think the factory does?

Have the two lower bolts to the side panels partly in already and set the lower dash ears on those. While it’s there see if you can have a helper hold it back from the installed position to get room to connect the speedo cable, heater cable and vacuum hoses. Then push dash forward to get the top bolts started to secure it. Have a helper set it in the car so you don’t damage anything.

They beauty of doing it that way is to have it all together before going in the body so you don’t have to stand on your head to install this stuff later.

Then just hook up the wires to the heater box, door jamb switches, dome lamp, dimmer switch, brake lamp,switch, bulkhead connector in the firewall hole, and rear connector down the left side. Then going to have to reach under to connect. the defrost hoses, antenna cable, right side ac air duct, and ac plastic cover on pass side.

I have done them by myself, but take my advice and use two people, especially with a dash as nicely restored as yours is. I usually install the wiring harness to the dash first, and as stated especially on an AC car,put all your components that go on the firewall first. I usually install the two bolts into the mounting holes on the door jambs,and hook the two bottom mounting brackets on the bolts. Then you can hook up the wiring and cables for the Heat and AC, some of them have vacuum lines to hook up, plug in the radio antenna, defrost ducting, and the speedometer cable,plug the bulkhead connector into the firewall,and then you can rotate the dash assembly up into position to attach it to the cowl.

Thanks. I did everything on the car but the body work and paint. Complete tear down nut and bolt rotisserie restoration.
 
I did the dash frame first and installed all other components bit by bit.
But yeah, wiper mechanism, insulation i did prior to that.
I did not come across any issues with installation, everything could be installed after the frame was put in place, as you have a/c (i don't) there might be some difficulties i did not come across.

Very nice restoration done, something to be proud of doing most of it yourself!
 
Another tip....after you set it on the two outer lower bolts. You can use a heavy wire, zip tie or similar to hold the dash away from the windshield mounting holes while you assemble all of the underdash stuff. Once you have everything attached move it into place at the front to screw it into place. I left mine about 8-10 inches forward of the installed position while I assembled all the wiring, heater controls etc. Once everything was attached at the front I moved it into place and attached it.
 
As stated, impt to attach as much as possible before raising the dash to final position. There will still be some stuff, speedo cable, parts of the dash harness, defrost hoses, etc., to do after the dash is in final position. I rested the dash on a couple 5gal containers.

Well it took me all day but I was able to get the dash installed and start up the motor. It wasn’t as bad a I thought it was going to be.

Your dash looks fantastic! The car is really coming together. You are inspiring me to push on with my 70 Charger R/T project.

Well it’s been a very productive couple of days. Thanks for everyone’s support. I stopped a few leaks and tuned up the motor today. I still need to work on a brake leak before I can drive it but I am super happy with how to turned out and I am glad that parts over with.
 
can i get a pic of where the dash meets the door jamb? looking to see if the dash wraps around the outside of the jamb.

Can you send me photos of your interior? Exactly the same colour is my 69 GTX.
Also do you know if that is the dark metallic blue colour from legendary?
