im sure this has been discussed in the past but I have yet to find it. I am picking up a 64 Savoy which has spent most its life as a race car. It has a stock width 8.75. New spool, gears and axles. The car has not been tubbed nor have the springs been moved in, yet. This is usually where I start by ripping the back apart, installaing spring relocater kits and mini/full tubs. I’m not doing that this time, at least not yet. So, my question is, can I run 15x10 rims with 33x10.50 slicks? I currently have some 15x8 that fit nicely, so chances are I may use those wheels with drag slicks. So here are my question(s)

1) can I run 15x10 rims with stock width 8.75? If so, what’s the back spacing requirements?

2) can I fit 33x10.5x15 under stock wheel house and not extend the wheel opening?

3) of I go with 15x8 wheels, can I run the 33x10.50 without cutting.

Eventually the car will get tubs and springs moved in. But I want to get this back on the track sooner then later.

Thanks for any and all help.

There is a 62 dart here in socal that runs a 10.5x33 out of Bob Moshers shop, but I don't know what was done to get them under there. I know it was something , because those tires are Huge! I can barely get 10.5x28 under my 62 Savoy (more restrictive wheelwell shape than a 62 dodge) and I had to move the rear end back an inch to get them in.
My best answers to your questions , my opinion only
1. Maybe, but I seriously doubt with a 10.5, maybe yes with a nine. My 8.5 rims have 4.75 and 4.875, two different sets. The 4.875bs rims need .350 spacers with 10.5 slicks, the 4.75 fit great with a 10.00 slick. Add 2", split the difference, looks like 5.5- 5.75 for a ten.
2. No. Simply and categorically No.
3. No.

I think this is as good as it gets

Not my car but I'm guessing a 10" rim. Took the photos for reference.

I would bet large money that the car Stanton posted has ten inch rims (at LEAST! ). The tread on that tire looks narrower than the rim, and that tire has at least 10 1/2 on the ground, and 30+" tall. I would also bet that the rear end is narrowed and the springs moved, again at least.

I will agree it looks fabulous!

There is absolutely no way this red 65 Bel I is running a stock width axle housing with that much front spacing. That's at least 4.5" maybe 5" of front spacing. Looks great, though! Trouble also with backing plate interference with stock spring location so leaf springs might be moved inboard if running drum brakes. Might get away with no spring relocation if running disc brakes.
Also, that rim is a D-spoke wheel. AR made those so Corvette owners would stop whining about not being able to race torq thrusts on their new disc-brake equipped Corvettes. Thanks, GM. Anyway, Mopar disc brakes never interfered with the straight spoke wheels and still don't. I've got two sets of 2-pc D-spoke wheels on two of my cars so I'm....guilty.

Now narrowed rear or moved springs. I had crawled under and looked. Thought I had a pic but don't. Those buns fit a stock tub no problem and clear the springs. Here's a shot of similar on a '69 RR

I've got a pair of one piece 10" five spoke americans (for a different car) that look like they have less rim to the outside than those on that 65 bel. He might have a set of custom two piece 10" (or 12) on that car.

For stock wheel tubs and stock length axle from a 66 Charger, THIS is about as good as it gets. 16x9.5 rims, 295/50R16 rubber

@Stanton , i agree, those tires are the same width, and just a little taller than my 10.5x28 slicks, and will probably fit under a stock wheelwell. We just dont think they will fit on those rims without moving Something!

Curious as to which rear disc brakes everyone is running? I ordered some from Speedway and aside from wanting to run my head through a brick wall during installation, the rims wouldn’t fit... I sent them back with great angst and disgust.

I ordered the US Car Tool replicator kit. I couldn’t help myself. I installed a set on my 64 Wagon and loved them. I’ll pay someone to do the wheel tubs, I’m not doing that again.

I've got two cars (not counting daily drivers) and both have jfz discs on the back. Thats not gonna help you though, both are tubbed, and narrowed, and jfz has been out of business for a few years. I hope i don't need pads for a few more years, although i have found them on the net.
Wheels and tires are 18 1/2 x31 hoosier quicktime pro, on a 15x14 centerline prostock.

So, after seeing the wheeltubs that we’re hacked up pretty badly I’ve decided to replace them with full tubs. I’ve also moved the springs in. I’m swapping the rearend for a narrowed Dana I have... what is the max Drag Slick size can I fit under there without cutting the outer wheel opening? I’m hoping for a 14x32.

On my 63 everything is in stock location. Springs are not moved and no tubbing. I run these 30 x 9 tires in the rear and I am pretty sure I could fit a 31" tall tire in there but that's it. No way a 33" tire will fit my stock rear wheelwell. Ron

If you have the wheels and tires I you mock it up to see if you have any clearance issue now that way you can decide if you want that big of a tire on their.. not apples to apples but on my 67 Plymouth I can get a 29/10.5w tire on it now using a 12in wide wheel but section width across is 14''' something

I crawled under Bob Moshers 62 dart drag car at the Grand National Roadster show yesterday, to see what I could about how he got his tires under it. It has 10.5Wx33, 11.25 tread. It had springs moved under the frame rails, unknown tubs, looked like widened steel rims on a stock width dana. (It might have been narrowed a little.) Bob specializes in max wedge and race hemi recreations, out of Monrovia ca. I'd walk in his store and ask, he's local, but maybe he will answer his phone. I won't post it , but I'll bet you can find it.
Edit: I wouldn't be surprised if the axle got moved back some, I would guess at least an inch, maybe more.

Awesome! I visited Bob’s this year while on vacation. We’ve since emailed back and forth since the start of this post.
